No expert here but I think it comes down to the machined slides vs stamped slides.  


Broken external extractors are easier to replace.

The redesign of the slide was the reason. The newer slides are one piece stainless compared to the 2 piece stamped design design of the earlier/original ones. Both are good quality.

in the beginning, they had the stainless milled slides with internal extractors and had issues with them that went away with the external extractor...



earlier stainless slide with internal extractor (with no issues so far )...Ernest Langdon P220...
