I'm new to competition shooting…IDPA, USPSA, 3gun.  Currently have XDM 5.25 (PRP trigger), Glock 34 (Vanek trigger, KKM BBL), FNS-9L.  As you can see, striker fired.  What is there in the Sig world for me to look at?  I noticed the P226 X-Five Competition…kinda expensive!  Nice looking though.  Can somebody tell me about Sigs, what rocks and whats a good bang for the buck for competition use or where one can find a good deal on one?

FYI, prefer 5" BBL for sight radius and a good, light trigger.  Not a carry gun.

I was using the X-Five Competition 9mm for action pistol.....and it is awesome.....until I recently got the X-Six L1 9mm, both of which are just insanely stupid accurate....the X-Six just slightly more so.

The X5 Comp has a non-adjustable trigger set at about 3.5#.  The X6 has an adjustable trigger from 2.3-3.5#.   They are the 2 softest shooting 9mm's I have ever handled.

I love them both like my children, but a polymer shooter may object to the substantial weight difference (X series are +/- 2.8 lbs) .  Additionally, they're both SAO, so you'd have to work the frame mounted safety into your muscle memory.   YMMV

Ask any SIG X-series owner about their pistol, and you'll get nothing but

Just about any of the SIG P series can be used in IDPA/USPA/3 gun.  It really boils down to what you want and what you can afford.  I run a stock 228 in IDPA from time to time.  Never felt the need for anything "better".

Does the extra weight make a big difference compared to Polly pistol in recoil and muzzle flip.  9mm.  Afford?...i can get very creative when highly motivated.  :). But, around $1k would be more doable then $2k for sure.

The extra weight DOES make a big difference with recoil / flip.

The lowest I've ever seen a previously owned p226 X-Five Competition go for is $1400......they retail at $1800+ and list at $1976.   You'll never see a p226 X-SIX under 2,000, and if you do, let me know...I'll buy it.

Why would you say SIG don't make good competition guns?  And what do you recommend?

max is kinda awesome.  If that's not a sig, what is it, a glock in SIG clothing?  ;).  Its prob modified, but my G34 has a kkm barrel,  vanek trigger and hd sights.  We all tweak as max prob does too.

Of course the pros modify their guns but in reality they'd still be outstanding shooters if they had to use S&W Sigmas.

I use a P226 for IDPA. Great gun. The DA pull takes a little practice but no biggie.

Edit:  just looked. $1850. X6 light weight.

The Light Weight is an alloy aluminum frame, NOT stainless......different animal altogether IMO
