SIG quality...? - Page 1

Something about them makes me really want one...Seems most people that have them love 'em.Are they honestly "that good"?I know i'm asking in the SIG forum,but how do you guy's compare them to Glocks/M&P's ect...?

I bought a used 229 and it has eaten 100% of everything I have fed it. I'm not too keen on the da trigger pull, but the sa is pretty good (SRT trigger). I changed out the e2 grips and installed the short trigger and like it pretty well. Well made, and good so far.

Best not to over think it. Hit a rental range and see what you personally like. If you like it buy it, you have a warranty.

I'll try to answer though. Guess it depends on what you mean by good. Do you mean reliable, accurate? I find them to be both. Some people say only buy German or W. German Sigs, that N.H. Sig pistols are junk. I don't know about that personally. I have a N.H. P226 (9mm) and have never had a problem but that's just my experience.

Hit the range, see if you like Sig's DA/SA pull, see if the slide stop gets in the way of your grip, etc. I agree with Steve about the SA SRT, feels great. DA first pull does affect accuracy but it's a safety device and you can train on that.

Or does your hand prefer the striker-fired double action of Glocks? Very simple, light, very reliable, etc. They're point and shoot, have low profile catch points along the housing, etc.

Answers are going to very subjective. I like Sigs and Glocks for different reasons. Best to shoot them all, pick one you like and put it in your safe.

I have a P226 Platinum Elite, one of the best handguns I've owned. It's ridiculously accurate. I put 5 rounds on paper @15yds and can cover those shots with a quarter, supported on a hand rest of coarse. Very well made. Frame to slide fit is very tight. Even the small details are exact. Right out of the box, it's perfect. You don't need to tinker with it at all. Doesn't need it. It devourers everything I feed it, and it begs for more.

The 1911 format is what I usually prefer, the trigger especially, which is approx. 70% of the accuracy equation. As well, the bore axis on a 1911 is better in that the gun fits better to the web of your hand, this provides the shooter with better accuracy and more of a "push recoil" instead of the flip up recoil associated with other semi autos. The SIG series weapons do not have that flippy recoil, so to say. This SIG P226 Is rivaling my Colt 1911. I got use to the trigger, however I need to practice the double action shot. The SRT is an excellent addition. Some SIGs have the SRT installed at the factory, some do not You can fit the SRT to most of SIGs, you can do it yourself or send it back to CS and they will do it for you.

I can't say enough about this Firearm. I've discovered that when you're bitten by the SIGness, there is no cure. It won't be your only SIG, you'll want another one, guaranteed.

And SIGs 1911 format is excellent. Hate to say it, but I think SIGs 1911 is better than Colt's 1911. And again, right out of the box, no tinkering or mods necessary. I know this being that I fired my brother's SIG 1911. His buddy got really pissed because it was right on par with his Ed Brown 1911, lol

I'm going to buy a P220 .45 ACP later on.

Checkout hickok 45 on this youtube site. This gun is a P226 Navy model, a P226 nonetheless. You will really enjoy this fantastic weapon.

My M&P .40 full size and 9mm compact are fine pistol's and I like them a lot, but my three recent production ( within the last 4 years) SIGs are orders of magnitude better guns.

There's simply no comparison.

When I shot my friend's 220 it was the smoothest shooting thing I have ever fired. It's like there are hydraulics in the slide.

My P220 Combat has been flawless. I've owned 3 German P220's over the years, which were flawless as well, but nothing worlds better that would steer me away from the new ones.

I have a 1980 P6 & a 2004 model P229R DAK. Never had a single problem with either one. I bought the P229R in .40SW and then added a .357SIG barrel and a Barsto 9mm conversion barrel. I added Pachmayr grips to the P6 & it's my truck/beater gun. The P229R is a joy to shoot.

I own all of the plastic wonder pistols, but I would always reach for the Sig if the SHTF. To hell and back reliability!

Sig quality has been great for me. I own a G19 and my dad owns and M&P9, of those, I will always stick with my Sigs. I currently own a P229 in 9MM and .357SIG and the P227. Both pistols have eaten everything I can throw at them. My P229-9 is pushing almost 9K rounds at this point without a single failure (and yes, it has the long extractor) The P227 has almost 400 rounds through it and also no failures. I cannot say the exact same about my G19, it's had a few FTFs as well as throwing brass back at me. The M&P, no issues, but I cannot stand the trigger on it.

Had a couple of M&P9c's that I loved, had no problem w/them at all. Replaced them with a couple of "bottom of the barrel" SIG P250's in 9mm. So far the P250's have been just as accurate/reliable as the M&P's, I have no reason to date to think that the P250's will not be at least as good as the M&P's. (Wife liked my P250's so much we ended up getting her a P250sc in .380).

After my friend shot my 9's he decided he wanted one. I helped him find a police trade in 226 on Wideners.com

It had a lot of holster wear but he was OTD for under $500. It has not had a single failure yet

I have had 9 SIG handguns so far. Would like to add at least 2 to 3 more. No longer have two of the 9. All but 1 has been great. That 1 is a 226 40S&W. The finish seems to be flaking off the rails and I shoot like crap with it. Granted I am not the best shot but I shoot much better with all my other SIGs.

I have read a lot of internet complaints about SIGs, especially the ones made in the US. I have no complaints at all on the US guns.

If you sell enough guns, you are going to get a few lemons.

My 239 and 226 and great guns. 100% since day one. They are smooth shooters. I still need to get a 2022, 229, and a 220

They are addicting.

I have had at least 8-10 SIG's over the yrs ( only have a W. German 220 now ) I regretted getting rid of every one of them and I let them go only because of my trade crazes which I finally am growing out of. Never had a any kind of issues with any of them other than their slide finish is not the best but that I can live with and to me other than a 1911 the SIG's just feel right in the hand

One thing I didn't mention before...

Yes, shoots great and it's been reliable. Most important, it feels great. I love the heft and the balance. Not too heavy but the heft of the aluminum frame/stainless steel slide combo just feels great.

From what I have seen personally and professionally, I would take a new Classic P series SIG over any other pistol. With that being said, I wouldn't hesitate carrying an H&K either.

Own a P6 and a German P220, both have been great shooters and 100% reliable. I've had the P6 for a few years and the P220 going on 20, both feel like extensions of my hand.
Added a P226 in 9 last year, awesome gun, but just last weekend had an issue with plastic(?) guide rod jumping off the barrel. Have since replaced it with a steel factory guide rod, haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, hopefully problem solved.

I also like both companies. I went from carrying a Glock 26 to a Sig P290. I appendix carry so the P290 is a little more comfortable (for me). For the nightstand I have a full size Glock. I trust both with my life.

I've owned a 226 in .357 and put thousands of rounds through it without ever a single malfunction. I have a mk25 now and it's fantastic.

I've shot a lot of guns, from all the major manufacturers and I'd take a sig any day of the week if my life depended on it. There's a reason they're used professionally by so many organizations. Reliable and accurate. Throw your Glock in the garbage and grab a real gun

The price of mags will rape you though

do NOT buy the cheapie ones, get the sig factory or mec-gar ones.
