Thanks Mercenary. Is hammer bite an issue with sig's? I do not like shooting 1911's without them, but if hammer bite is a non issue with sig's, then I wont worry about it. Also, I noticed you can get a 226 in 22LR, and then get a conversion kit for center fire. The frames are the same correct? So what if I got a 226 9mm with SRT, will that be a non issue if I decide to pick up a 22LR kit? I am guessing the only difference would be the SRT, just curious if that is compatible with 22LR.

Side/Hammer bite is a non-issue with SIG pistols, I took a picture to give you a visual of how far the hammer comes back
Not sure why SIG even offers extended beavertails on the P-series pistols, other than to guide your hand in when drawing the pistol
As far as the .22lr caliber X-change kit goes, it will work just fine with or without the SRT Depending on how big your hands are, you may want to look at the P229R also, I would compare the P229 to a G19, and the P226 to a G17. Both the G17 and the P226 are a little too long for my hands. The P229 fits my hands perfectly, the new P229R E2's come with 15rd mags also My new P229R E2

Thanks again Mercenary, I will compare the 229 and the 226 next time I go by the LGS. I do like that you can get 18 round mags for the 226, though. Ive got the fever pretty bad now.

Just curious...what do you think the SRT is?
The SRT sear and safety lever can be installed on any P226. Buy a P226 in .22lr and then buy the caliber x-change kit. You'll save a bunch. |

I really like my P226, one of my favorite hand guns. I haven't tried the SRT versions though.

I assume you are looking at 9mm. Standard factory (flush fit) mags are 15 rounds. But you can also get Mec-Gar mags in 18 and 20 round capacities. Or the Sig "Swat" mags are also 20 rounders. They are the longest of all, extending the farthest out the bottom of the pistol. As stated previously, all 226s can be retrofitted with the SRT if need be, and it is worth it IMO. Heck, if you ever have to send a Sig in for the SRT (or anything else for that matter) have them do a trigger job on it. That is also well worth it! |

I bought a 226 Extreme a few months ago and it is by far my favorite pistol I have ever owned. Those grips are amazing and they look good as well.

You will love it. I love shooting my issued one. 30,000 rounds and counting, and except for a broken extractor, never had a malfunction with it, except when I ran it dry a few times...

I've run about 2k thru my P226 and it runs like a champ. Till I got the 226, my M&P45, and my MC Operator were the ones that got shot the most. I would have never considered buying anything other than a .45 for practice use. But its made a believer out of me. You might have certain brands that dont function well in the gun, but thats with every other gun on the market. Buy it, shoot it, love it, never part with it.

i was in the same boat until this past monday. I wanted a glock 17 for a fullsize 9, but couldnt get over all the issues they still seem to be having with brass to the face. I found a good deal for a sig 226 standard rail model with contrast sights. I hope to have it by the end of this week or early next week.

Best 9mm ever made. I used to be only a 1911 guy, and my buddy(member here-grn06rubi) was a Sig guy. Finally I got a P226 and Im in love with it. Now, Im a 1911 and Sig guy
I have now fired 1000 rds without cleaning from mine and have not had a single failure. Has about 3k total rds with 0 failures. I didn't realize I was at 1k already so I guess I'll just go on to 2k |

Get two, that's what I did.
If you feel then you must have the SRT, then have it done or do it yourself. To me one main reason the German made Sigs are so great is that they need nothing, when they came here they were pretty much perfect as is.

I would stick away from the beaver tail models, they IMHO tend to make your hand grip lower and do not feel quite right, and are un-necessary unlike the 1911s.

Try one before you make up your mind about the bever tail Sigs. My experience with my Tac Ops P226 is exactly opposite of strm_trpr's... It allows me a higher hold and is more comfortable and controllable... Your milage may vary. -Tac |
