Both 38 special and 357 mag headspace off the case rim, which is the same between the cartridges.
40S&W and 10mm both headspace off the case mouth, which changes between the cartridges. Though I'm sure it works because enough people have done it.
I have a KKM barrel in 40S&W. I didn't want to put the extra stress on my extractor on a pistol I'll also be using for woods carry protection. So I got the new barrel.
I don't always stand in the same spot when shooting pistols. Sometimes I'm even running. My G40 is the only centerfire cartridge pistol I have with a red dot. If I ever wanted to shoot it in a local competition for fun, didn't want to lose all of that expensive 10mm brass. I have SO MUCH 40S&W brass stockpiled. It just made sense for me to get that barrel for my G40.
I agree, 10mm is the best millimeter. Some may even call it a centimeter. ;)
