What is your guys thoughts on putting a grip plug in the frame of a glock ? I know the reasons for both. Let's you grab a magazine when there is a jam. Some say let's water run out. Others says prevents debris from entering.

I don't buy them because if a mag gets jammed I want to be able to rip it out and a plug would make that harder.

I see no need.

the whole point of that opening is to let water drain out (if you look up in there, there is a hole going up to the trigger housing) and to let you get to the thumb cutout to make it easier to grab the magazine

Was told in one of my armor classes it can interfere with the flexing of the frame when firing.

I Don't buy any of the reasons for it. In 35 years of using guns I've never had to drain water from one.
If I did drop it in water I would take down and clean anyway.

I use plugs because the hole just bugs me because it looks like something is missing and I'm a
little OCD.

with a slight break to the edge, I use one in all my large Glocks to aid mag insertion

No plug here. If the factory wanted it plugged they would have. Plus drainage, grab mag, everything stated above.

not just water, but its techically for any debris that comes down out of the trigger via gravity.

i dropped a couple glocks off for service at Srmyna, and they both came back to me with an extra little baggie with the plugs, and the armor explained they were not only no necessary, but not recommended.

but clearly enought people like them, as they continue to be on the market.

I use plugs specifically because I always have my firearm tucked underneath a shirt and it really does prevent lint from getting in through that hole. Another reason is that it makes inserting a mag fast a bit easier. In combination with base plates that provide a solid purchase to grab in the event of a stuck mag, the plugs really work for my specific needs.

I've got a Vickers Grip plug with built in take down tool in there right now.  My G17 has a finger cut out at the bottom of the grip if I need to "grip and rip" a magazine out of there.

It's a solution seeking a problem IMO. I see no need for it.
It doesn't enhance performance or aesthetics (if that matters on a Glock).

Cheers!

X2
It's the 1st thing I buy for a new Glock.

They absolutely aid in mag insertion.  That's why I have them.

I used plugs for years. Debris will build up but not enough to be an issue. When I had a magazine jam up on me that's when I stopped using plugs. In carrying my gun for self defense not for looks. Every advantage counts.

I never saw the need.

I have a ramped plug in my 19, but only because someone gave it to me.

It does aid in mag insertion, but not enough where I would buy them for my other Glocks.

Can't say I go diving with my firearms so drainage doesn't concern me. I do however get lint and dust/mud from hiking with mine open carry. I feel it was worth it. Was it 100% necessary? No.

Practice is much more of an aid.
And practice makes perfect.

I don't have them as I don't see the benefit.I can't see the extra 1/4" or less of plastic helping with reloads. Just my 2 cents. I would spend the extra money on mags.

If JMB wanted 1911 front straps checkered he would have made them that way.

Yeah I know it's not the same. I put plugs in the range gun play toys. And checker the front strap on 1911s.

Ive used them for 20+ years with no negative effect.

smooths the rear edge of the magwell for reloads.

I shoot 400-500 rounds a month

Used to have one, then got rid of it after a few years.  I found that lint would collect in the backstrap and recoil feels better without it in place.  YMMV.

I live in the desert.  My Glock 20 gen 4 has one.  Doesn't cause any issues.

I don't k ow what they'd be preventing debris from getting into. There is nothing but empty space in that part of the grip
