Anyone know if the 6378 model will work with the surefire X300U? I've read that it will work if you remove the cap where the light is?? I'm looking for an ALS model with just thumb release. I currently have a 6390 but it's not compatible w a light. My plan is to buy a 6378 and use the belt setup from my 6390. Any experience or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, it will work if you remove the light cap.  Be aware though that the 6378 will sit lower than the 6390 because it's designed to be worn concealed while the 6390 is designed to be worn on their duty belt loop.  In other words, the hole pattern on the back of the holster is higher on the 6378.

No, the X300U will not work with the cheaper belt holsters like the 6378 (unless you remove the end cap as mentioned above). However, it will work normally with the duty holsters like the 6390.

Are the actual holsters different between 6378 and 6390? Or is the only difference the belt attachments?

I have a current model 6378 in FDE for a Glock 19 with Surefire X300. My X300 Ultra did not fit until I removed the plastic end cap. Cap removed and it works perfect. Great inexpensive holster. The handgun will be retained without the light attached as well.

As stated above the 6378 in a mid ride UBL will sit a little lower, but it's not a bad in my opinion.

They are different. The duty type holsters like the 6390 are made of a different type of kydex (much thicker and different texture), and the attachment points are lower on the holster.

Biggest differences are:

Material, though not in a negative way

Light tunnel on the CURRENT duty holsters is longer to accommodate a variety of lights. While the 6378 requires the end cap popped out to accommodate the X300U the current duty holsters do not.

Mounting position. Still uses Safariland T pattern. Duty type holsters have the T mounting lower on the holster body resulting in the holster riding higher. The 6378 has the T pattern mounted higher on the holster body resulting in the holster riding lower. I find the standard belt loop on the 6378 punched out to accept a 2" belt rides pretty nice. On a UBL it drops quite a bit, too much for say driving a car but just right for clearing a back pack belt.

I'll try and remember to take some pics. I have a 6360 for a full size glock and a 6377 for a G19 and a 6378 for a G19. All are quality holsters.

I would appreciate the pictures. Trying to figure out if it's worth the extra $50 or so between the two models for a training class

The 6390 with UBL rides at about the same height as the 6378 with belt loop. However, using the 6378 with the UBL will drop the height about 1.5" due to the mount hole spacing. Safariland has a 1.5" drop UBL for the duty holsters if you prefer that kind of drop.

If you are going to get a lot of use out of the holster, then I strongly recommend the duty series. They are the industry standard for working holsters for a reason.
