I have been shooting USPSA competitively for 8 months now sometimes with a Glock 35 and sometimes with a Glock 19. I've long wanted a G34 with which to compete in Production Division. So I ordered one and picked it up yesterday.
Nothing special, a Gen4 Blue Label with 5.5 connector. $507. You can be competitive with a stock gun, because skills will always > gear. However:
There were specific mods I wanted to make it more ideal for competition, but I'm limited to mods which are Production legal. Thus, I settled on modest mods to the trigger, sights, and guiderod. After much research, I decided to go with a DK Custom Trigger basic kit, Taran Tactical Innovations sights, and Jager steel captured guiderod with ISMI 13# recoil spring.
The DK BASIC KIT includes:
DK Custom modified Smooth Faced Trigger with Trigger Bar
Custom "Tuned" Connector
DK Custom Modified Safety Plunger with tuned spring
Trigger Housingwith caliber specific ejector
Trigger Return Spring
SS Trigger Housing Pin
4lb Striker Spring
4.5lb Striker Spring (Silver Color On One End)
Adjustment Wrench
The Trigger Group comes lubricated, assembled and ready to install.
My understanding is that DK uses a lot of factory trigger parts but tweaks and machines them to his specs.
I like this trigger. I installed it without messing with any of the settings. I used the 4.5# striker spring in lieu of the 4# for the sake of reliability.
It has about half the takeup of the factory trigger and is about half as heavy (pull) as the factory trigger with 5.5 connector. There is a definite "wall" before breaking point, which I like. It's a little spongy if you very slowly stage the trigger, but if you're moving quickly the sponge disappears and pull becomes silky smooth. Break is clean with short and strong reset. I didn't test any splits yet, but I can only envision them improving with this trigger.
It's a distinctively "Glockish" trigger, with all the trademark characteristics- just better. Loads better. You won't have to relearn anything.
I'm pleased with the purchase, and feel it was a good value for what I got.
I have these on my G35 already, so I knew how badass they are. Perfect for competition. Not much more needs to be said.
This combo comes highly recommended by tons of shooters for reliability and why mess with success?
This mod is probably the lowest return on value of the group, but theoretically it will reduce recoil due to the factory spring assembly being oversprung for the low powerfactor loads we production shooters fire in our guns. I've read that Glock factory recoil spring assemblies are optimized for the high power +P loads shot by European law enforcement agencies.
Range Report:
After installation of the various parts I took it out the the backyard and fired roughly 150 rounds with zero problems. I'm excited to wring it out in competition; I feel like I've got a good setup for years to come and it should take me to Master class and beyond if I do my part.
