I want to get a new gen 4 glock 19 but im leaning towards the gen 3 after all the problems I have read about with the gen 4 pistols. My lgs has a gen 3 with fiber optic front sight and black rear sight for $500. Is the gen 4 fixed and worth an extra $50-75 over the gen 3?

What issues I'm I suppose to be having with my Gen 4 Glock 19?

Problems with the ejector and it ejecting brass straight up or back at the user and the recoil spring having isues causing stove pipes ect. The issue were reported around 2011-2012 but some as recently as 2013 I figured glock would have fixed everything by now but wanted to seek out opinions before spending the$$

Get the gen 3 or 4; they both work equally well.  No problems with either one.  Post a range report.

I had a Gen 3 G19 before buying the Gen 4. Both occasionally hit me in the head with a spent case. No other issues with either. Is a Gen 4 worth a little extra? Probably if you like the backstraps. Otherwise maybe not. But ymmv. Everyone else I know prefers the Gen 4.

The ejection problems of the Gen4 9mms were shared by the new production Gen3s. But Glock came out with a new recoil assembly as well as a new ejector which seem to have fixed the issues. I have had three Gen4 9mms that were made 2013-2014 and they all run without issue. I'd have no hesitation if I were you, but I would make sure it is a new production gun and not one made in 2010-2011 when the issues seemed to be prevalent.

Early gen 4 9mms supposedly had the same guide rod and recoil springs that .40s were using.  This apparently caused some issues.  Other than that just some complaints of random brass to the face.  My gen 4 19 will throw one in my face from time to time.

I have had zero problems with any of my Gen 4s.

I owned a Gen3 G19 and an early  Gen4 G17, I currently own a Gen4 G19.
I came to rather dislike the grip of the Gen3 G19 as the uppermost finger groove was just too small for my middle finger. For me the Gen4 is much more ergonomic and the stock trigger of my Gen4 G19 is actually better than that of the other Glocks I owned.
The new G19 has been flawless till now, I had actually a few FTF or double feeds with the Gen3.
The G17 was sold before there were any problems, I assumed the early model recoil spring would induce malfunctions as the springs might bind.

I had a Gen 3 G19 that was awesome...it was stolen.  Replaced it with a Gen4.  I like the "smaller" grip on the Gen 4.  Slide failed to lock open once in the 300 rounds through it.  So far it's nice.

Gen 3 and Gen 4 experienced the same issues.  Reports of BTF have seemed to drop off dramatically.  I had problem guns in the mentioned time frame, but my recent production 19 Gen 4 has been great through 3000 rounds.

+2. Carry it everyday for years and put maybe 7k+ through it.

Also have a recent (2012 IIRC) production Gen3 G17 that also runs perfect. (10k+ rds)

30274 ejector in both btw.

Completely satisfied with both with boring reliability, but that said, Im going Gen4 from here on out. The improvements make the difference for me. Gen3 is G2G obviously, but I will prefer the Gen4 from now on.

Bought a new Gen 4 G19 about a year and a half ago. ~7500 rds later the only issue I've seen has been ammo related (FTF) and that has only been on a handful of occasions. Honestly opinion though, unless you're a lefty like me it makes no difference. FWIW, there are lot more aftermarket accessories and support available for the Gen3.

The issues with the Gen4 were early in its production and related to the spring assembly and the ejector, both of which have long since been corrected.  At this point, Gen 3 vs Gen 4 comes solely down to preference.  I have both.  Both work 100%.

Get a Gen4 and don't look back. I have one that replaced my Gen3 and I love it.

Same here, 2013 prod. g19, so far only a few hundred rounds thru it but no issues. My only other Glock was gen3 G34, I much prefer the ergos of the g19 gen4. Besides the recoil spring and ejector issues the only other problem I heard of was some slide stops breaking, but like the other issues new gen4s have upgraded parts that seem to have corrected these issues. One interesting fact I've seen pop up a few times is those who shot their early gen4s with hot SD loads reported less recoil/muzzle jump than with the newer softer recoil assembly. Mine shoots pretty good but I'd like to try the heavier sprung assembly just to see if there's a perceivable difference in my daily loads.

The only time that happened to me was with my old Gen 3 17. My Gen 4 runs great.

I have a gen 4 G19 that is perfect.

I also had a gen 4 G17 that had erratic ejection problems.  I installed the updated ejector and it was perfect after that.

I regret selling the G17, but I used the proceeds to fund another project I had going at the time.

No problems with my Gen4. Here a Gen3 19 costs $489. The Gen 4 is $534. Sales talk, "You get the updated spring and extra mag with the Gen4."  Dandy, I like'em both.
I hope my response is ok for the "Little Professor" AndyD because I know how much he likes Google, spellcheck and Wikepedia, plus he's been a member for 12 years here.

Theres a few places where you can get trade ins from under $350 if u don't mind holster wear. Gen 3 and 4 variations are pers pref., work on grip, get training, fundamentals, and u should be gtg, gl

I'm currently in the process of having my frame replaced under warranty.

Bought the gun new a few months ago and noticed the trigger pin was walking out. Pushed it back in and it seemed to secure itself with the slide lock like it should.  Shot it again a few weeks later and the same thing happened.

Sent it into Glock to look at it and was told the whole frame needed replaced.  I don't know what the specific cause is, but it has got to be a bad molding or screwed up geometry of the pin hole.

Hopefully the new frame will be right.
