i wish my gen3 19 didnt have a rail.... and no, i have no desire to send it off or have it modified to remove the rail. if gen2 19's had the 2pin trigger id get one of those though, they are just sexy.

EDIT: i found a frame.... but i imagine this was from a 23 not a 19, correct? i know they are the same size and the slides are interchangable

Might just be me, but a mounted light seems more suitable to duty weapons and home defense. I don't see the reason for bulking up the size of a ccw with a light and making it harder to hide.

I agree, but just because it has a rail doesn't mean it has to wear a light 24/7... and just because a gun does CCW duty doesn't mean it's never used for HD.

Not everyone has the luxury of owning different guns for different roles, and even those who can don't always choose to do so. There are some, for economic reasons or simple choice, who use the same handgun for both CCW and HD. A G19 could certainly fill either niche adequately, and the light rail would be welcome by most when the gun is serving in a HD role, if not when used for CCW.

Even someone like me, who has multiple copies of different guns for each role , occasionally finds himself in a situation (usually travel-related with a requirement of travelling light) where his primary CCW has to temporarily double as a "HD" firearm in the hotel room. I normally CC a 2nd-gen G19 but, in those rare instances, I carry a 3rd-gen (sans light) instead so I can attach a light (packed in the luggage) for bedside use at the destination as needed.

Just a couple of examples to consider...

^ This.

Before I got my G21, which turned out to be my nightstand gun......................I would pull my G19 from my holster at night, slap a TLR-1 on it, and it was then my nightstand gun. The next day, pull the TLR-1, and then slap it back in the holster. Easy peasy.

Is there Vitamin C in Newports?
No, but you can't get a snitch shanked for a dozen oranges no matter how hard you try.

I actually like having a light attached for CCW sometimes.

I walk my dog at night constantly during the fall and winter when the sun sets early around here and we have no street lights. Also my wife and I see a lot of movies at night and even before the Dark Knight shooting I have been concerned about the dark theater.

My problem with lights is simple , it gives you away , sure you might be able to see the suspect , but he can see the light , shoot the light , shoot the light ,kill the light holder!

That's why all good lights have a momentary-on.

Amen!

I wouldn't have a defensive firearm (other than CCW) without a light, but I also wouldn't have a weapon-mounted light on a defensive firearm (handgun or long gun) without momentary controls.

Do some reading (or get formal training) on the proper way to use a weapon mounted light. You don't just run around your house with the light turned on.

I have a Glock 19 Gen 3 that was the first handgun I purchased. It has served me well over the years with thousands of rounds fired and no issues that I can blame on the gun.

Say what you want, but a 9mm will definitely take care of business with PD ammo and gives you an increase in capacity. 15 rounds per standars G19 mags plus the ability to run G17 (17 rounds) and G18 (30+ rounds) plus the ability to add extensions. I'm not an expert on much of anything, especially ballistics, but I feel comfortable carrying 9mm with no problem. It's also one of the cheapest and most popular rounds on the market.

Also, the Glock mags have never failed me, I have never had to change components on either the gun or the mags, and, basically, gunsmith-free parts replacement if needed.

I have never regretted owning the G19. Out of every gun I own, I trust my G19 the most. I would expect (and demand) the same performance out of the G19 that you have with your G22. Glock has ruined me because I demand all of my firearms to work straight out of the box and to work every time pre or post "break-in" period.

On a side note, I tried to "upgrade" to .45 with a Kimber Custom II. Without going into details, the Custom II is now for sale, but YMMV on 1911s. I may try a Glock or HK .45, but not anytime soon.

Yep. I carried 147gr Winchester Ranger T's in 9mm (RA9T). A buddy of mine would crack jokes on me because it was 9mm, and because he carried a .40, which he thought was a magical caliber.

Then I showed him the comparisons on Winchester's own website, comparing the same exact ammo in .40 and 9mm. They're almost identical in performance.

I had a G23 and liked it. It never gave me problems. But after I bought my G19, I sold the 23. I just didn't see a personal need for it (not knocking the gun or the round, just personal preference). I was getting damn near the same performance with my G19, with 2 more rounds and less snap.

Ive had all the training I need (20 years of law enforcement) Ive seen too many idiots shot with there lights momentary or not , just my preference , if you like the lights good for you , when we're out on patrol , stay away from me with your light , momentary or not , all the suspect has to see is a moment of your life that you wont get back , but if you like lights go for it! Just isnt my thing! I refused any such equipment , now there uses for lights , but none associated with firearms not in this situation or in defensive carry , but feel free to give your location away at night inside house , that makes it real easy for the suspect , hopefully he'll turn light switch on when he leaves it will make it easier to find you for the paramedics!

I've was in the same dilemma and decided to go with the G19 because it met everything I wanted in a general purpose pistol: Service-grade/acceptance. Chambered in a low cost, widely available, practical defense caliber. Concealability with capacity and 4" barrel. Huge aftermarket/availability of parts and accessories. Availability of reliable high cap mags(33rnd G18 mags). Accessory rail. $500 max.

The Glock trigger leaves something to be desired, IMO, but I figure I'd like to see what different connectors do for that.

I am waiting until Glock gets things straightened out with their new pistols or a good priced used example comes along. Until then, I am stocking up on G19 mags while they're only $20. I can never catch the used ones at AIM and the last used Gen 2 I saw locally had nearly no finish left on the barrel with a price of $410.
