Fairly new to CC and notice that carrying while driving can be a bit uncomfortable.

Also when belted in, accessing your weapon at 3:30 right side position is not a convenient maneuver.

Does anyone mount a holster in your vehicle that is easily accessable?

If you do this is it still considered concealed?

I use a desantis kingston car seat holster. Been strapped to my middle seat for years, still holds up well. It's positioned between the drivers seat and the middle seat. Makes for great access.

In Florida it's legal as it's secured in a personal conveyance. I'd check with your state laws first.

Find a QUALIFIED car audio install tech. Check his tools. If he is working with a bunch of pawn shop tools, and a fifty dollar tool box, go somewhere else. Splain what you are wanting to do. Don't haggle on price. Tip the tech. It will make a big difference in the price you pay when you change your mind and want to change the location of the holster, or switch to a different holster.

The holster in the pic doesn't cut it in Tejas.

I copied this guys glock holster install in the center console of my Tahoe. Cheap, quick, and has worked like a charm for over three years so far.

I've been thinking about getting one of these and putting it under my steering wheel. Sootch00 did a review on these things just a while back. This way i can attach whatever pistol i happen to be carrying that day. http://bamholsters.storenvy.com/collections/187307-all-products/products/1337841-bam-magnum-mount

I have a G-Code RTI Wheel mounted in my truck.  I love this thing because I can switch between holsters depending on what gun I am carrying that day.  And yeah, I know the gun is dirty.  Carry a gun everyday and it's bound to pick up a little lint.  But don't worry, it was cleaned after I saw how bad it was in the pics.

Looks really tight to the console.

Can you get your hand in between the console and the gun to draw?

I think it's just the angle.  The gun sticks up far enough that getting a good grip isn't an issue.

Would strongly advise you to research the legality of this in your state before plunking money down on anything.

While I am not set against this idea, I personally would rather have my gun "on me." It just seems like it would be a big hassle having to handle the gun every time I exit and enter the vehicle. Putting me at risk of the dreaded "man with a gun call."

I'm hunting for ideas also.  The Wheel adapter looks pretty good since, as you point out, you can switch holsters (or remove) easily.  This is another less flexible option I cam across on Amazon:

I have tried 2 options with limited success.  #1 was a couple of godawful strong magnets inside my console.  Since the console closed, it is legal, but it sucked because when the was NOT a gun stuck to it it stuck to everything else.  #2 was a Safariland ALS holster on a MLS clip and a MLS receiver in the car.  The draw was great, the retention was great, but it was bulky as hell.

I am still looking for a solution.

I'm not a fan of off-body carry in your car. First there's the issue of handling your weapon every time you enter/exit (you do take it with you right?). Secondly it could make for an awkward and potentially dangerous situation in the event of a traffic stop or other interaction with law enforcement.

99.9% sure that in Florida it has to be concealed in a vehicle.  the only one I've ever seen that would be legal (in Florida) would be one that goes under the front seat.
There is a really good book (for Florida) that covers gun laws, and can be found on the counter of nearly every gun shop/shooting range.  See if there is one similar for IL and don't buy anything until you know it will be legal.

Not 100% sure,but I don't  think it's legal to mount a holster in Illinois.

I'm pretty sure my instructor said only on your body, glove box, or

center console for concealed carry.

I was wanting something that would be a bit quicker than opening my center console but didn't want to drill holes in the side of my console or under my dash. I 3d printed a mount that uses existing holes in my seat frame that I could attached the female half of a Serpa to. I just put my hat on it to conceal it. This lets me take the pistol out every day without having to unholster it.

Don't make fun of my bird legs! I may make a couple more changes to try and perfect the angle and how close it is to the seat.

doesn't really answer the question directly, but alot of LEO/instructors like ankle carry for in vehicle use. Allows you to keep the firearm on your body concealed at all times and gives you the ability to draw the weapon proactively without anyone outside the vehicle being the wiser.

Yes, great idea.

I did something different.  I was driving for a ride sharing company earlier this year.  I was wearing my shoulder holster under a light jacket during the colder months, but being right handed, I was concerned that I would not be able to effectively bring a weapon to bear if I was jacked by someone in the front or rear passenger seat.  That meant I needed a way to access a gun with my left hand.

I have a new 4Runner, and the plastic door pouch seemed like a good place to mount a holster.  I have a Sherpa that used to be mounted on my head board with the quick disconnect system shown on page one.  I did not use it anymore because I have a 3 year old running around.  I also had the paddle half of that holster with the other half of the quick disconnect attached, which was something I was experimenting with some time earlier.  I did not want to permanently screw the holster to the door.  I was concerned about who sees it when the truck is in the shop for maintenance.  I rooted around in the garage and found two small discs, they are sliders you attach to a furniture leg.  I mounted them so that the rubber nubs on the paddle holster (the ones that grab your belt) would grab these sliders instead.

Close up:

Next I had to modify the Sherpa a bit.  It is a right hand holster, and you can't activate the retention pad with your left hand.  There are two ways around this.  You could remove the retention pad assembly.  It is held in with a roll pin.  I considered this but my initial thought was I would be removing the holster part via the quick disconnect and attaching it to my belt and then I would want the retention device to work.  So I found a piece of plastic in the garage and stuck it under the retention paddle, locking it open until the plastic is removed.

This is what the paddle with one half of quick disconnect looks like:

And with the holster attached:

Here it is with the door closed and Glock inserted:

I don't have a picture of this now, but I have since taken an old nylon travel pouch and cut a hole in the so that the holster part is inside and it can be zipped up to completely conceal the gun, which I found useful.

In retrospect, I could do all this without the quick disconnect stuff, since I don't remove the holster as I had planned to do. I do totally remove the paddle part and holster when the truck goes in for maintenance though.
