Carried a 642 for a long time with Speer Gold Dots; I switched to the Speer Short Barrel Gold Dots when those came out. No complaints and I still carry it occasionally and when hiking. It's definitely not a gun you want to shoot a lot though and it's not even the .357.

Back when the S&W 640 and 649 came in 357magnum
I bought both models Full power 357mag loads are to much for a snub. Besides with 38 spl +P I could shoot faster and have a tight as group. The 38spl+P have plenty of penetration So if you get a 357mag I would use 38spl+P in it |

Packing a 642 in a coat pocket is pretty handy also. One can hold the handgun on the suspected BG without showing. and able to fire it without jamming. |

I carry my G19 95% of the time but there are sometimes that feels a little to big in some of the business meetings I go to. So I thought a small revolver would very easly fit in my pocket. I might caryy it as a BUG also. |

I might caryy it as a BUG also. Not looking to derail...if it happens sorry. Iv looked into a revolver once as a small package EDC, and here are what made me change my mind.
For background I was looking at RUGER LCR in 357 and a Walther PPS in 9mm
Revolver low round count but with 357mag I could train to be more deadly per hit per round count.
PPS 8 carried 8 backup.....same time training with the PPS as the RUGER I'd more likly be ahead.
Revolver = small but thick print for conceal carry
PPS= thin but larger area mass.
As for everyday mechanics ....training a compleatly diferent process , from trigger controll to reload mechanics to style of drawing..
The Thin semi auto wins hands down. Even if the reload is European style mag release...which I was running an XDm 9 at the time...I have since switched to the PPQ
The more concistancy one has in weapons the better...from casual use to well trained. Consider all things the same.
Selfdefence is the simplest actions to cover the broadest possibility. |
