Been stopped twice while carrying. I'm required to notify by state law. I was disarmed both times. One time I received a ticket, the other time a warning.
I thought it was a bad idea on the part of the officers, but I kept my mouth shut about it. |

In Ohio I have found all the Offers, who have stopped me to be very professional.
The first time was a slow head on, not my fault, at 12Midnight The CCL just passed. So when I told the State highway Patrol Offcer I was carrying.he was a lost for words. Then said I should drip it in my car, before getting in to his. Most of my stops are at night.(I did delieved papers) Why are you out so late? Why do you keep going so close to the ditch? Not one wanted to see it. I do not give them a reason to take it. I have my wallet out by the time I pull over. I turn on the inside lights. My hand do not leave the steering wheel, unless I'm told to!!! I have done this even before I was carrying. I have been thanked for that action. Even when I was stopped for speeding, twice, they let me go with a warning. If they go by looks, to how they treat you. I have a full gray beard, long hair tied back in a ponytail. I do not own a suit or a tie! PITA45

My alternator failed as I was leaving Miami one Saturday afternoon, saw the light on the dash and took the next exit, the Miami Stadium exit on a UM game day... Car completely died as I was approaching one of the gates that was heavily manned with FHP directing traffic. While still coasting I put my 1911 in the glove box and had the wife lock it so that I didn't flash everyone around as I was pushing the car. After the officer told me what was wrong with my car (like he had a clue), he finally called a stadium wrecker to take me the last 300yds to the repair shop that I could see from where it died. Not wanting to leave my gun in the glove box while the tow driver took my car to the shop (we weren't riding with him because the cab was NASTY and smelled like death, so we walked), I approached the trooper and showed him my CCW permit and told him where my gun was and that I would like to retrieve it before the vehicle left. You would think that I told him that there was a bomb in the car, he drew his gun and took a "Barney Fife" bent knee, ready position, had me unlock the glove box and almost tackled me out of the way before I grabbed the gun. After he fumbled with it for about 30secs, he was finally able to get the mag out and he tried to hand me the gun barrel first, I jumped out of the way and explained that he had just swept me with a LOADED weapon with the safety off (part of the fumbling he did to get the mag out...). He then realized that he was out of his element with a firearm and placed it on the front seat and stepped back sheepishly, I inserted the magazine and put it back in my IWB holster and walked to the repair shop.
I was so amazed at his behavior that I contacted the local FHP office and mentioned his seeming ineptitude with handling a LEGALLY armed citizen. To my knowledge, nothing ever came of it, but I was just shocked that he would react that way and almost appalled that he tried to sweep my with my own gun. Other that that,I've never been pulled over while carrying. |

I've been stopped 4 or 5 times while carrying. Two or three times by Texas DPS, once by Arlington PD, once by Denton PD.
I've only been disarmed once. By a State Trooper. He asked, I told him where it was and let him take it from the holster. He put it on the seat of my truck, and we walked back to his car to talk. Did not unload or say anything. Usually they just tell me to keep the hand visible. |

Got pulled over on my motorcycle by a bike cop yesterday.
As soon as I got my lid off, I let him know I was CCW. He said "thanks, there'd be a lot fewer problems in the world if more people carried guns!" And that was the last he mentioned it. Still wrote me a ticket, but super nice guy. |

I tell people that every chance I get. I always tell them that it can take 10 minutes for me to get to you. What do you think someone can do to you in 10 minutes? They usually get that wide eyed look, and nod their head. |

Both times I've been pulled over, both by a county sheriff and a state patrol officer. In both cases, they had a hard time clearing my 1911. I had to look over and tell them the thumb safety was still up and wouldn't let the slide move. Stater let me off with a warning, while the sheriff wrote me a reduced ticket.

never been disarmed. Just handed the cop the CHL along with the DL, he asked where the gun was, I say "on my right hip", and they have just said "well, don't go reaching for it, and we wont have a problem".
I've received 3 speeding tickets since i got my CHL in 2007. and probably issued warnings after a traffic stop another 2 times. |

I haven't been pulled over recently and not 'yet" a ccw holder but I was curious of any Maine CCW carriers have been pulled over in recent years and would share their experiences?

I've always had friendly encounters with the police.
My dad is a cop, and when he somebody tells him they have a CCW, his response is "don't show me your's and I won't show you mine" |

Once when when I first got my CCW I was 21.. So maybe he just felt safer he also took my SN? I have been stopped once or twice since then (im 37 now) but that was the only time I was disarmed.

Not reading 4 pages.
OP, I am a Texas CHL instructor and have been since 2003. I teach every week, and have between 15-30 renewal students monthly, sometimes more. I ask this in every renewal class, and OVERWHELMINGLY CHL holders are not disarmed. It is just not a big deal for cops anymore, |

Been pulled over three times since getting my HCP and never been disarmed, all three times I presented my HCP with my Drivers Licence and stated that I was armed.
I even got pulled over doing 90mph on my GSXR and the cop just politely asked me where it was (IWB) and proceeded to write me my ticket |

in all my years with a cwp the only time i have been disarmed was my own doing. i got stoped in Ga for "speeding" on my bike. the LEO told me to go sit in the front seat of his car as he called in my info on the radio. waiting for him to return to his car i took my g30 out cleared it and put it on his dash with my cwp sitting on top of it. he bout pooed himself when he saw the gun and after i had a "talk" with him was sent on my way with no ticket.

Been pulled over a few times, plus witness to a few wrecks where I was asked to hang around and give a statement.
Never been asked if I had a weapon, never volunteered that information, and have not had a problem. They dont ask, I dont tell. I understand if you are required to inform, but why would you if it wasnt a requirement? |

Not required to tell them I am armed in CT unless they ask. Never been stopped for speeding in over 30 years. Been stopped in routine spot checks where they are looking for drunks at the typical on ramps. Never been asked if I'm armed and never said anything. Had they asked I would of told them though. Many friends here stopped for various reasons have been asked and then disarmed and got their weapon back unloaded.

I was pulled over in Idaho a wile ago wile I was carrying. The officer asked if I had any weapons to which I replied yes. He then asked me to step out of the car and put my hands on the hood and he removed my pistol from the holster and put it on the dash of his car. After the traffic stop he shook my hand and handed back my pistol and told me to take it easy.
