I am thinking about getting a Century VZ2008. I did not think that I would ever be interested in getting another Century rifle after the hassle of dealing with them on my Bulgarian Ak74. I had a problem with key holing using all types of ammo. They gave me the run a round for about a month before they agreed to let me send it back. To make a long story short, they did replace the barrel and that corrected the issue. The only problem is when I got it back, I noticed that the front sight post was canted and they left a small dent in the receiver. I guess it could have be worse.

I haven't heard of anyone having any issues with the VZ2008. Any reason why I should not get one?

Probably you have not searched hard enough,  google "VZ 2008 problems" and see what pops up. Some 2008 owners are lucky with a  reliable 2008.......some are not

Get one, the few issues you may have are easily fixed. As for the google solution, well google any gun and problems. I think someone just doesnt like vz2008's.

You got that right... Had the opportunity to own one in 2009 or 10. it was sadly put together/finish/rifling was pretty bad (new).  Is their anything wrong with not liking a product that you spend your money on and not satisfied?  I sold it and the only thing worth keeping is the original wood stock set it came with.   Like I said some satisfied 2008 owners... Some not.  Maybe century forget to indicate on label "good price on our vz2008s but..... Like you said 4xphate "few issues you may have are easily fixed.

Any gun manufacturer can have issues. Though these 2008's are better built when compared to other/most Century products (probably mainly because they're outsourced and not built by Century). I don't know if it's simply because places like AIM have sold a lot of them the last 5-6 months.  But problems have indeed popped up. It's up to you whether you want to buy one or not.

The most common issue you MAY run into is the "gremlin".
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_4_99/145592_Tabbed_bolt_carriers_and_the_vz58_gremlin.html

The issue may show up right away or may show up later down the road. 50, 100, 300, 500+ rounds later. Or it may not show up at all. It can be prevented though. But since Century can't legally do the work beforehand (CSA/Czechpoint owns the patent). You'll have to do it on your own or farm it out.

Problems or possible problems. Take them for what they are. Is it a bad product or simply showing up because of the number of guns sold? I don't know. But if you do get one. I'd spend the time and/or extra coin and tab the carrier. I have a couple CSA vz. 58s and love 'em. But if I had an extra $400 and wanted another 58 type rifle. I'd buy one. To me though it simply boils down the this. Any gun company/manufacturer can have issues. But if I buy a CSA, CZ, Beretta, Mossberg, Colt, FNH, H&K, Ruger,  etc firearm, I'd be surprised if I had any real issue, but they can happen. But if I buy a gun made by Century (including the 2008 (though it is farmed out), Taurus, Chiappa, Diamondback, I.O. Inc, Kel Tec, Phoenix Arms, etc, I'd be less surprised if I had an issue. Though these companies make many good guns as well. Just could be more likely to run into an issue.

Some of these I'm sure are gremlin issues. And some may even be ammo/user error. Just providing some reading for you to peruse. I'm think they're a good buy at $500 from places at AIM. They were an excellent buy when the sold for around $400 earlier this year. Just like any gun. I'd look it over before you have it transferred. And I''d get the carrier tabbed and clean it up and shoot her.

I gotta say, I've been very happy with mine. So far I've only shot a couple hundred rounds thru mine but no 'gremlin' issues, no fail to fire or eject, came out of the box sighted within an inch of bullseye at 25 yards, no canted sights, nice smooth action, good fit & finish. Almost walked away from it after reading all the gremlin issues but if I start to experience them I can get my carrier tabbed for $50 and problem solved. There's been some discussion back and forth over the sear in the newer Century rifles and if they really need the carrier tabbed. I'm not gonna lose sleep over a problem until it becomes a problem. If you want a 99.99% reliable rifle an AK is the better choice, but the VZ is lighter, smoother, prettier, and just as cheap and accurate as my WASR 10/63. If I have to drop $50 on down the road I've still gotten a bargain.

I am very happy with mine fit and finish was very good. But I did have to tab the bolt carrier. after that no issues after about 1100 rnds of mixed ammo ( hp,sp,fmj, 123grn - 154grn)

Exactly....forget about other century builds/all rifles gonna have issues etc.....topic is about the vz2008, and with its current reputation some satisfied owners some not.   I keep hearing vz2008 owners say I can get 2 vz2008s for the price of one csa vz., well jg sales has some vz2008 for$899 and $1299.... Wow these must be some special vz2008

I haven't had my bolt carrier "tabbed" but I did read that Century solved the "gremlin" problem using another method .
