Ok, I know there have been a few of them floating around in the past.  The general consensus though (correctly or not) was that a 5.45 AK pistol would cause the surplus ammo supply to be cut off.  Well...now that the surplus ammo is cut off, what's holding them back?  We already have 5.56 and 7.62 AK pistols.  Why not 5.45?

Once that !@#$ ruined 7n6 imports most everybody walked away from anything 5.45.

smaller calibers = shorter barrel hurts velocity more.

True, but there are still plenty of 5.56 SBR/pistols out there.

Because it was all a bunch of well orchestrated bullshit in the first place.

As I recall, 5.45 does much better than 5.56 out of shorter barrels because it isn't as reliant on velocity for its wounding profile.

Then again non-surplus loads take care of that anyway.

I thought 7N6 was cut off as "armor piercing" before the import ban to punish Russia over Ukraine. My understanding was 7N6 only became an issue because some douche put a 5.45 pistol to market. Now that 7N6 would be banned anyway is the market now open for a 5.45 pistol? Yea sure....whatever.

This is mostly true, but the ATF stated the reason was someone wanted to import a 5.45 pistol, even though there had been 5.45 pistols on the market previously

Now that 7n6 is banned interest in 5.45 is low. Maybe when commercial 5.45 becomes more available we will see a few pistols in 5.45.

Funny enough, a lack of interest is what made 5.45x39 so cheap in the first place...Then people started putting it in their AR's
