Just got the SB47 on my M92, love it, Totally different weapon now.
I want to keep it fairly simply, and not gadget it up, but i need a top piece to mount a scope rail, and a scope on. I want a smooth side, and bottom, as I do not like the feel if the rails on my hand when using it, is there anything like that on the market.
I could go with the side mount AK system, but was hoping for something to mount forward.
I do not like the Dust cover mount system, as it is not a stable platform for a working scope.
Also I need a scope, or optics of some sort, for short range of course. I want something that does not need batteries, again that keeps it simple,
Thoughts on a decent Long eye relief scope, pistol, or rifler scout type??

Ideas, opinions????

Why not Midwest Industries Key Mod or MLock??

As far as magnified scope....Burris has a real nice one. Had it in scout position on my M1A.

I'm personally planning on a MI Keymod rail and wait for their 30mm ring gas tube version to come out.

If you can wiggle it, it is not stable enough.
I admit the M92 hinged cover is by far the most firmly attached cover of all the AKs I have picked up
A scope, or optic system looks good there, and initially seems like a good idea.
If the dust cover was a good place, there would be no need for the side scope mount setup
which is something I am considering, having used it on my other rifles.

My only experience is with an RDS, not a magnified optic, but my cover is tight with zero play, I mean zero according to my eyes/hands, I'm sure you could put it under a microscope though and see movement...  Good luck with your search, find the MI railed hand guard is awesome

We already have our Renegade polymer forearms available for the M92, and our aluminum Optics Mount Top Covers will be available as soon as I get back from vacation in just under 2 weeks.  You can direct mount a Burris Fastfire or Aimpoint Micro to the Optics Mount Top Cover and get iron sight co-witness.  $55 for the polymer lower handguard and $70 for the Optics Mount Top Plate, $125 for the whole deal with a handguard that doesn't heat up and that blends properly into the receiver.

(shown on an M85, but works on both the M85 and M92)

How on earth did you get all that to stay on with only the grip screw?

The bolt that for grip is not small and it is a solid bolt that will hold all that without any issues....I ran 75rds without one issue....still tight, of course I use blue loctite....very solid.

After looking at the different rail systems, I decided to go with the standard AK side rail scope mount.
Still need a scope,or some kind of optics, and am not finding anything that suits me.
Probably go with a regular scope with Crosshairs, and low fixed power, as I do not care much for the batteries, and illuminated stuff.
My guns with the illuminated stuff alway have dead batteries,

Painted the hand guards with Rustoleum flexi dip spray paint, which provides a good grip.
Will probably mount a pic rail on the wood for any other attachments.
Something about the after market hanguards that I dislike is the effort needed to remove them to clean.
AK are simple Beasts, and I prefer to keep it that way.

dead batteries = cheap red dot sights....if you get something decent battery last for a long time, you can even leave it on and it'll shut off itself to avoid draining battery, nevertheless, nothing last forever......

I am not trying to force anything on you, go with what you like

Definitely what I am looking for
I want to say Thanks for telling me about it.
They are out of them right now, but due to be in at the end of the month, so I will wait for it.
It would work perfect for some ideas I have, like cutting off the front sight.and using a rail mounted AR peep sight system, and a scope.
This is my favorite gun right now, and I enjoy shooting it so much.

Can you use the lower portion without having the cover on? I like the bottom, but not the top with the gap....it's just me. Wondering if you could use the bottom and mix and match a top cover.

Nope, bottom is attached to the top using 4 long bolts, I am sure you can modify it to fit another top piece........

On the website, they sell it without the top cover, so I have a feeling you can use the bottom without the top in place. Just going by the website.

Would you be able to measure the total length of the rail on the bottom for me?

You can use the bottom by itself.  The only issue you may have is it will require fitting to mate properly with the handguard retainer.  It's made for a standard AK retainer, not the round type fount on the M92.
