It seems Draco's are gone or overpriced, so whats the best AK pistol to SBR?

Hopefully, besides the PAP , I want to use standard AK parts and Handguards.

Or am i better off at cutting down an standard AK barrel to SBR Length and retreading to standard AR-10 specs?

You can probably find a Draco for 600-700, M92 for 400.

I like my Draco a lot.  I will be adding another.  But the M92 has some appeal as well, so it might be next.

There's the Hellpup too....

You can still find dracos in the $600 range. That's what I would go with if you want to use standard akm parts and hand guards. Do not sbr the hellpup, you'll thank me later.

Didn't the hellpups get real mixed reviews on reliability?  They're cheaper than Draco's are now but it sounded like they didn't run well.

Mrgunsngear had a lot of issues with his hellpup. IIRC even after it went in for warranty work it didn't work correctly.

I really don't see how you can go wrong with a m85/m92 right now. At $400 I think they are a good deal. Part of me would rather have a Draco for the 14x1 threads, and standard hand guards, but I am not paying twice the price for it. I also like the krink top cover setup a lot even if the sights suck.

If you call Century, chances are you won't pay twice the price.

I worked on a Hellpup that lived up to it's name.  The bolt carrier actually would jam in the rails because the receiver was slightly bowed out.  I was able to straighten it up to get it to work reliably, but there was still a bit of side to side slop in the bolt carrier, much more than my MAK90.  I decided to go with a DRACO for the SBR, and it as run very well.

It is a slightly more sane approach than mine: oh, just get another one.

Hope to have #2 fixed up by next week.

I had the same problems with my hellpup as ploufdaddy.   I sent it back for repairs and it worked the way it should have the first time so I am currently waiting for a stamp on it.  I already had a polish sporter rifle from them as well and it has been a great rifle since day one so I assumed I would be getting the same with the pistol (since they are imported by IO,  not built).  If I had to do it over again I would probably do a draco or M92 because the only thing the hellpup has going for it is a hammer forged chrome lined barrel over the M92 and price compared to the Draco.  My next purchase will be an M85 and it will be getting the SBR treatment as well...

I thought about getting a m85 to SBR also, but decided I'd rather do a AR if I'm doing an 223 SBR. I have a 16" carbine gas upper I could have chopped. I could have a AR SBR for around $300

I have an AR SBR stamp coming too.  Sent them both at the same time.  The main reason for wanting an M85 too is that it will be extensively modified.  TAKD M4 conversion with LRBHO, left side charging, etc. just gotta find someone to pin a barrel extension while I wait.  I bought the M4 conversion without even having a host for it just because I like the idea of it and the challenge of the project.  I went back and forth between the M85 and doing a 223 or 545 saiga conversion but I don't see any damn saiga rifles for sale anywhere at a decent price (at least not in 223 or 545).
