I wasn't in the market for an AK until I saw this. Now I have one on order and will eventually have a similar end product. Very nicely done.

Real nice. I would like to do something similar. How does it compare in length to a real Krink? I can't find the barrel length. Is the piston/gas system shorter than a standard AK? Would you be able to put a Krink style break on this? I was never much of a AK guy until I got one. I already have a 10.5" AR and a short AK would be nice to have.

Thanks for the pics Scott. Great examples. I don't want to derail the thread to much. I think I will try to find one for sale somewhere. The OP's Draco is still one of the nicest AK's I have seen

Proper Krinkov's are great! I only wish I had one! I got to shoot a FA one on Saturday. 7.62 Badness! Guy, is an SOT and built it himself.
BTW, the stock barrel on my Draco is 10.5".(no FH) |
Gardner, would you be able to give me a measurment from the back of the reciever to the back of the CTR in the colapsed position? I have an ACE folder on my current AK (9") and I am just trying to get an idea of how short I can go if I put the 7" stock on.
Thanks Jeremy |

I had to check with someone first to confirm this. |

The easiest, and proper way to get an accurate barrel length measurement is to insert a dowel into the muzzle end and bottom it out against the face of the closed and locked bolt. Mark the dowel at the muzzle, pull it out and measure from the mark to the end.

That thing is gorgeous! First AK I've seen with an AR-style stock that I thought was done tastefully.

Gardener,
May I ask how you achieved the worn finish on the metalwork? I LOVE that look. Thanks! |

Green scotch brite pad and a little water. About 10 min of light polishing all in the same direction.

No, don't worry it will be fine. Sweet, it's getting "the pad" as soon as I'm sure its GTG. Seriously, thanks again!! |

Well, I am ordering one now. I am going with a VZ58 stock and a Tantal muzzle extension to get it to 16". I hope to move home to Hawai'i next summer, so no more NFA stamps for me.

Do you know what the thread on the barrel is? Cause for another $200 I can put a 30 cal suppressor on it... Now THAT would be fun!
V. p.s. Im working on getting the parts for mine. I cant wait! This is going to be my first SBR... |
Barrel threads are 14X1 LH and concentric they are not (on mine)
I bought a YHM 14X1 QD Mount for my Phantom and the threads were out of spec enough that we decided not to suppress the Draco. Kind of a bummer although the YHM mount is 3" long and I hated the idea of that big long flash hider on there. I like the boom and flash of the Draco. I'll save the Phantom for my AR's. It has been done though and good luck if you do. |

Compact ACR2-SC and the Standard Gas Tube rail that is then cut down about 1/2".
You can get the AMD gas tube rail and it will be about 1/2" short but will work fine with the gap at the rear. I did not prefer that look but an untrained eye would never know the difference. |

Yup, and that's the cheapest I could find when I was checking out the distributors on Ultimak's site earlier. I'm gonna hold out and see if I can find someone getting rid of a used one. I don't even have a Draco yet, so I have time. |

Shit, the rail cost almost as much as the gun. Yeah, they're pricey alright. If someone made a knock-off, I'd be all over it. But as far as I've been able to find, the Ultimak is the only AK rail that isn't as short as standard AK handguards and can be used as just the lower tri-rail; which is what I want. |
That is unbelievably sexy.
I keep looking at it and can't even wrap my head around it being an AK, it just looks like a high end AR with an AK mag coming out of it! |
Gardner,
I read you said the Ace integrated adapter locks open tight. I didn't see anything in this thread or on the Ace sight about the stock locking folded. So, stupid question... Does the stock lock in the folded position? Thanks for your time and the inspiration. |
Jesus Christ in low rise jeans, now I'm gonna have to piss off my wife. You just had to post this thing didn't you?
Love the Draco SBR. I want to build one just like it minus the Magpul grip. I preferer the dedicated AK grips to the ones modified for AK's or with adapters.
To the op. Is this the same adaptor you used ? No other parts needed that screws directly into the holes you drill and tap.

The only additional thing that has to be done is to ground down the "nub" that you see in the 2nd picture.. |
I want to know: to intall the Ultimak lower rail,That I need to dremel the lower clamp that is in the barrel ? The one that help to adjust the wood handguard. Let me know your draco is the best.

so no need for the ace internal reciever block? Nope. Those are for standard AK's. It just gives you those 2 holes that the folding mechanism mount to. With the Draco, since it has a different rear trunnion, you're creating those 2 holes by drilling/tapping directly into the back of the receiver. |
Sorry if you already posted this, but what threaded muzzle attachment is that?
Have you tried to shoot it for accuracy with a scout or pistol scope?
Quoted:
thank you Just to add, GO SLOW WHEN TAPPING, use plenty of oil, 1/4 turn back it out oil it up and go again. That trunion is hard as shit. There's a few people with broken taps in their trunion, including me |
I go about 1/8 of a turn, then back and 1/8. Oiling after it goes back. Stopped breaking taps after that.
Not much into "tacticool" AKs but that is one sexy little carbine!
Gardner's barrel has a Krebs UNI Mount on the end. It allows 22mm muzzle devices such as the Krinkov Booster to be installed. More of a thread protector now.
