Ok so I just picked up a Russian laminate stock set and am trying to get the rear paddle stock off an AES10-B. You guys have any tips on removal? I've got both screws out but it's not budging....

Secondly, the wood I picked up from a fellow ARFCommer is a gorgeous unissued Russian laminate set. But fitting the lower handguard is obviously going to be a must. While I can understand the purists cutting off the carry handle, I was hoping to be able to use the wood And still have the carry handle attached. Anyone have any tips on getting the lower handguard to fit? (am I gonna have this much trouble swapping wood on the gas tube too?)

Thanks guys for any assistance!

Did you forget to take the grip screw and nut off along with the grip? They also hold the stock on.

No had the grip off as well....do you have to hammer these things out? No spot to pry a screwdriver like I did with my 74.

Last night I did exactly what you're trying to do right now. I absolutely could not get the stock to move doing everything possible to it. I actually just cut it off at the base and used a drill to break up the block left inside the receiver. It was ugly and looked like a disaster on the table but I seriously could not get that stock to budge one inch but it looks amazing now with the laminate on it.

I wouldn't do that just yet. I would try to hammer it out from the inside out. Use a block of wood and a hammer.

Absolutely hammer it out. I warmed my receiver a bit where the clubfoot attached and hammered it out with the stock wrapped in a towel. Had some grease and grime inbetween when I finally got it out.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Went ahead and picked up a 16oz rubber mallet today at Lowes. We'll see how hard I have to smack this thing. What about fitting the lower handguard from an RPK set to an AES10-B? I've seen a few guys able to do it without removing the carry handle (I kinda like the handle, though I know it wont be an "accurate" clone)...any tips?

Anybody want some $ to fit this for me to theirs and ship it back? Should it be about the same fit?

I bought a Russian Laminate RPK Stock set and i just used a large box cutter to shave off some of the wood. It took alot of trial and error to get it fit but its something anyone can do. Really no biggy

A Finnish friend taught me the following trick:

Grasp stripped AK firmly by the receiver, whack stock on a solid surface first on the left face three times, then on the right face three times. Continue until stock is off gun.

Personally, I do this on a concrete floor with a towel down to keep from putting dents in the wood kit.

It's never failed me. YMMV

Be CAREFUL !! if you're going to reuse the stock. I did the same thing with my new outadabox never fired AES 10B. I did the rubber mallot thing, only wam wam. Not WAM WAM, and the F'in thing broke at the back of the trunion. I used wood glue to put it back together. Then drilled a hole and put a 3" galvi deck screw in to screw it together. Don't know if it will hold.

Use gravity. Tie a rope around the stock, and another around a tree branch, and jerk the rifle down. May not seems like much force, but it is.
