[Last Edit: Midwest_Ind]
This last year we put down our ARs and picked up our AKs.
We have spent a tremendous amount of time going over our current AK handguard offerings, and looking at what new optic mounting solutions as well as features we could bring to the Kalashnikov styles of rifles. We spoke to shooters in the industry and spent lots of time at the range. All of this with the goal of making the best AK handguard on the market. With all of that said we are proud to introduce our Gen II AK handguard series. Midwest Industries Gen II AK products. |

that looks really solid. I like the classic wood look of my mak90, but if i were to buy a second ak (slr is on the list) it would have this. Nice

Same attachment method as old handguard system?

Those extended handguards look good.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement. |
Any ETA on the Krinkov MRO version?

Do extended handguards fit CR rifles?
I'm in.
I have the SS Gen 1 handguards - both extended and regular lengths. Aside from the MLOK and Keymod, can you tell us the main differences with the new Gen 2? Trimmer? Lighter? Better attachment method?

Smooth receiver transition ( for those who care ) Addition of another anti rotation feature Full length narrow top cover on extended versions The gen1 models will perform on the same level we just enhanced some things and Made a few Minor improvements. |
We will look into it.
thanks Troy MI |

How difficult is it to remove this to do a proper cleaning (gas tube)? I shoot corrosive ammo and need to get to about everything to clean. Pops on and off easily?

View Quote To remove the tube you will have to remove the top cover . This is no different than any of the other units out there. We typically field strip the gun and fill the gas tube with bore foam muzzle down . Gets the tube sparkly clean with no need to fully remove it . Troy MI |

Does the front hand guard retainer need to be removed to install the extended versions?

I had buyers remorse after buying a Krebs handguard for a stamped AK.....and now I can see MI designed what that should have been built like all along.

So glad I waited to buy an AK rail. You've made old Greg a happy man!

An extended version for heavy bbl'd VEPRs and other bulged trunion rifles might be a good seller.
So some posts on videos and in forums are saying that these will cook your hands with as little as one to two mags.
Any comment from MI on this? Do they just suggest using rail panels to mitigate heat? |
Casual shooting will not cook your hands. Mag dumps with the short hand guards can heat them up. Gloves or panels or a combination may be required if you are going to run a bunch of mags non stop. We have sold these non stop since they were released and have a few dozen being run for range guns and instructors guns. We have had no complaints.

can they work with just the bottom half? or is the top portion required for mounting the handguard? I have a ultimak that I'm not ready t give up just yet.
They are made to work with the top and the bottom together. our lower will work with our new railed gase tube on the short versions.

Does these work on saigas?
As long as the saiga has a standard length gas system. They do not need a hand guard cap so they can make a conversion easier.

If you made an extended version for the Draco I would buy one tomorrow.......
Any one know if these will attach to a Saiga .308?
I see you got rid of the gap at the receiver (that you spent many words saying wasn't an issue), kudos, looks much better!
These look great. I'll have to get one for my Draco.
Thanks for doing what you do. |
Soooooooo awesome if they made an extended rail for Draco, M-Lok of course.
