Posted in the other thread...but my new Tantal (Kreb's custom SBR w/ pinned hider making it legal) The build quality/fit/finish is simply amazing. 2-stage trigger (RSA I think), krebs peep rear, etc....amazing rifle. Will probably shoot it tomorrow.

i just bought a polish tantal, and i have a question, shouldn't all the internal parts such as the gas piston, bolt assembly, bolt, dust cover, and gas tube all have the same serial numbers (4-digits), i know they wont match the receiver....

I just finished this build and have not had a chance to finish it yet. I wish the guy who sold me the lower would have sold me the right lower so I could have used the right selector...he said I didn't really want to deal with is so he sold me all the parts I needed to use the standard AK receiver.
So it's a Frankin/Tantal or a "Frantal"! Any way here she is...shoots fine! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/CaptnC/AK-74_folded.jpg FYI- The FCG was not installed when I took the pic...the night I put it together I ran out of time to finish it...so just threw the exterior parts on her and took a pic! |

This may sound dumb, but how exactly do you remove the wire stock from the tantal? From what I see there is two pins on the side holding the stock in. It dosent look like the same as normal Ak's such as a Wasr where there are just two screws that you remove from the stock to remove it. Thanks.

If memory serves, besides the normal screws that hold the assembly in place, the pistol grip screw and nut also hold it in place. |

My newly acquired Lancaster w/ bulgy stock. The wire had to go. Crappy cell pic.

Century Y-prefix that does not keyhole. East German sling, buttstock, pistol grip and lower handguard, US-made AK74 brake. High-temp engine paint from Pep Boys, Honda semi-gloss black. |

I like the all black look. I'm guessing they don't have real wood furniture for these huh? (besides IWD) I'm thinking about getting a regular black stock for it also.

Did your handguard require any mods to make it fit? I've seen these on GB and really like them.
No mods necessary, and thank you, I really like them as well.

I have a side rail rather then a selector .

how do you like the Beryl folder vs. the Tantal's folder?
When I first ordered it, I wasn't expecting it to be that much of an improvement (just to look cool), but I really prefer it.
It gives a bit better cheek weld, or in my case chin weld with my optics. Also it has a good length. The only negative side is that it doesn't lock closed, but in reality, I will very rarely have a need to carry it folded. |
does the Beryl folder install on a Tantal without any modifications?

I can't stand parked Tantals. They just look wrong.
Where did you happen to get a Beryl RSB and rear trunnion for your Beryl build??? |
Bought that rifle complete here in Houston from a guy on akfiles.
Just post a wtb for the parts you need and someone will make you an offer for them. |

Nice rifles acarpenter! After seeing your pix I decided to go with a Tantal to Beryl conversion also. Removing the old Tantal stock was easy as there were no roll pins and I knew about the manditory grip removal. After the grip was removed all that was necessary was to remove the rear tang screw which has a machine thread and pull the old stock rearward.
Now, with the old stock out I discovered that the plate that goes under the pistol grip is no longer needed and can't be used. This plate provided the spring tension required for the old side folder and also helped support the whole thing. What I want to know is...Is the rear tang short machine screw the only hardware you reinstalled? Or, did you install a new tang screw for the front of the rear tang (the one under the recoil spring)? If you did place a screw in the front of the rear tang what size & type was it? The whole thing is tight but is the small original machine screw all that is needed? Thanks. |
nice rifle! where did you find that rail? and was it difficult to change out those buttstocks?
Posted some old pictures, but decided I'd take the plunge and "modernize" it, and I must say I absolutely love it. My goal was to keep it light and functional, and I hit it right on the nail, while still keeping it a Tantal. Added a Barska 1x20 Compact Red Dot(Which I might add is a damn good optic for the price, I'm very impressed for $70), UTG Pro Quad Rail(very sturdy), Magpul AFG, Mako Ergo pistol grip and a NcStar AK/SKS sling(wasn't wanting to spend a bunch on a sling, so for $8.00 I couldn't resist). Only other thing I'm wanting is to fabricate a bar to add higher up on the wire stock for a cheek rest, then rap it all in paracord. But here are the pics, not the best quality, taken by my iPhone 3g:

Can you take some pictures of the UTG handguard? I want to see how it is attached on top. Thanks!
