I'm looking for a replacement barrel for my century arms tanal. I just want to barrel its self im not looking for a parts kit. Where can I find a barrel from a reputable company? One that will garentee me no key holing. I tried sending it back to CIA but the rep swore up and down the rifle is supposed to key hole. SO it looks like im going to have to do this the hard way. Thank you guys.

You've got to be kidding me. Did you try to talk to someone else there? That is a well known and admitted issue with the early rifles. Century has admitted it.

I wish i was. I should have done more research on the rifle before i bought it. But im stuck with it now. I sent it to them because it was key holing and it was miss feeding. When they got it all the supposedly did was adjust the head space and clean it and sent it right back to me. They had it for 6 weeks and did nothing, when I got it back it was still miss feeding and key holing. When I called them on it they said it was supposed to do that. They offered to replace it but it was going to take another 6 weeks after they receive the gun. Its a fun plinker though. I have been doing more research and i have read that the rifle may be able to shoot mil-surp with out the key holing issue. Im going to try the mill surp see if that will shoot straight.

AK-Builder has US made Tantal barrels sometimes. Interarms/High Standard sell the same chrome-lined barrels they use on their Tantal builds.

When was yours made?

I have a 10/11 production with the 1:8 barrel (according to century) and so far with 800 rounds through it from 50-100 yards I have not seen one keyhole with TulAmmo 60gr and Monarch 60gr.

I would wait the 6 weeks and get another rifle if thats an option, I'd rather take a chance on a new rifle then getting one back you know for sure is a keyholer.

not sure on the date. The serial number is a C00XXX number. Mines key holes with tula 60gr too. Im going to try and get a replacement from them but im a little skeptical due to the fact that it took them 6 weeks to tell me they didn't do any thing to fix the gun in the first place.

The rifle is NOT designed for the bullet to tumble from the barrel. That is a load of BS. Rather than go through the expense and trouble of replacing the barrel yourself, i would send it back and just wait. That's the kind of crap that makes people continue saying be wary of Century. If they ever want to improve their rep, they need to fire that guy and honor their warranties 100%. I can't believe you didn't go ballistic on that fella and ask to speak to his supervisor.

Yea I know it's not supposed to tumble. And yelling at him wouldn't have helped the situation. If anything I would have gotten even more angry by yelling. But I'm going to see if I can get the weapon swapped out. If so its all good. If not, well lesson learned.

If anyone cares, I spoke to century and they agreed to replace it. It should take about two weeks. I told them that Key holing is completely unacceptable and they agreed to do some test firing on the new weapon before sending it out. By no means am I praising anyone especially the guy that told me a bullet is supposed to be wildly inaccurate, but hopefully they will live up to the warranty and i wont have anymore problems.

I hope it works out for you. These rifles are great to shoot.

Guess I got lucky...mine is a CAI "Y" serial number with the US non-chromelined 1:8 barrel built in August of 2009 and haven't experienced any keyhole issues.

Currently about finished building an original matching Polish Tantal kit with the original chromelined barrel. I'm building it on an early (DCI) complete Century Tantal built receiver that DID keyhole (the infamous early TTL serial numbers) and the guy lost interest in trying to fix it. This saved me alot of time as I don't have to parkerize the reciever and it came with all the interals as well. Just gotta rivet the matching front trunnion in place, apply finish & bake then press in the barrel. Bammm...got a great rifle!!

yea, they just got the rifle so i should get my new one in 2 weeks or so. I cant wait to have it back because i just bought some things for it. A Polish free float gas tube cover, Bulgaian/russian black polymere lower hand guard, a RIS barrel mount, a flash light offset mount and a buffer plate, 7 mags and about 300 rounds of milsurp. All I want now is a texas weapon system dust cover and a decent red dot and call it a day! The weapon is a terrific shooter! ... other than the key holing that is.

Yea me too. Screw that guy! sorta ticks me off alittle bit that he had the nerve to tell me that, and say that it was published in some shooting magazine that its supposed to tumble while in flight. But Century has a lot instock from what the rep JUST told me about 20 min ago. I think you can call them and find a local dealer and have them order it for you. They have a 1 year warranty after purchase from a dealer so your right they are out there. Just gota find who can get them for you.

Glad to hear you received your replacement. Hopefully everything will perform without any issues.

My Tantal is a "Y002" serial number series built in Aug 2009 & has functioned & preformed flawlessly.

Nice Tantal!

Mines a Y0010** serial built in March 2009 and doesn't keyhole. All I shoot is 7n6.

Decided to put a nice set of '74 wood on mine...didn't care much for the folder.

My CIA Tantal was made in 09, matching numbers except for the rear sight. Trunion, gas tube, carrier, recoil spring, bolt, & receiver cover all have matching numbers.
