I would like a defenant answer please. I see people all across the internet saying "i think" or "im sure" but I really want to know. Will the older century arms tantals "the ones that key hole" chamber the .223/5.56 caliber? Thank you guys.

not reccomended
The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in
defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more
important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is
supplemental.

Are you talking about reaming out the chamber to fit the 223 and then shooting in the oversize barrel? Or just loading up the ammo and shooting it?

I would think if you're going to get the barrel pulled and the chamber reamed, it would be just as easy to replace the barrel instead, and then you can have one with the correct sizing, either way (223 or 5.45)

from what i've read, the early model Tantals from Century had the .223 barrel. You'd be the only person i've known to actually want one. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the barrel is not all you'd need to worry about. The chamber would be incorrect for the case. Would the extractor even work correctly?

no they have a 5.45x39 chamber, a .223 will stick way out and bolt wont close. From what I understand the barrels have a bore sized for .223 and its a cunt hair to large for 5.45. Basically the chamber is the right size but the bore is not. Its like shooting with a worn out barrel. I had a century m74 sporter that i suspect had the same problem as the tantals did. Couldnt hit paper at 50 yrds.

Ok great answer and thank you. I was very unsure of this for this is my first firearm and it is a huge learning experience.

If you're a handloader you could consider wildcating the round by loading .223 slugs into 5.45x39 cases.

haha no i dont reload ammo. im still working be coming proficient shooter with the one that I currently have. Speaking of, I have only been able to shoot targets 25 yards away at the most. Dose Key holing LARGELY effect accuracy? I would imagine it would to some degree but im wondering if the gun stands a chance at hitting any thing past 25 yards. past 50 yard 75 ect.

When the gun is keyholing, you won't be able to shoot accurately. Keyholing means the projectile is not stablelized due to lack for enough RPM. Maybe caused by wrong twist rate.
However, it could be because the barrel they used is .224 instead of .221which is correct for 5.45x39

Im for certant they used the wrong type of barrel. And Im aware of what key holing is, i am just trying to get a grasp on how much it affects the rifle. But still thank you for explaining it to me like that. I had no idea twist rate could cause that.

Century corrected the problem of over-sized bore diameter in their Tantals almost two years ago. If your gun's serial number starts with a Y, it could have issues. If the # starts with a T, you're OK.
