What was used as the original finish for a Polish AKMS underfolder ? Was it parkerizing, bluing, paint ? Thanks.

I've seen some that are just parked, but most are parked then painted.

If your building from a kit, it's your preference.

Here's a family pic. I've built rifles using park/paint and just parkerized , I actually prefer just park...

My 1986 parts kit appears to be paint over zinc phosphate. I have a NoDak Spud receiver which I'm going to finish in semi gloss black Norrell Moly Resin. I might leave some dirt on it before I spray it to make it look more authentic. I will post pics if I ever find the time to get it done!

Early ones were blued , later had a painted finish.

I've not ever seen a blued AK.(other than a Chinese AK).

If you have one from another country...I'd love to see pics of your rifle..

Please share pictures of your "blued" kit/rifle. I'm presuming it's not a Chinese.

All "early" Chinese AK's (and later) and SKS's were blued.

I do believe they were the only AK's issued that way.

Please post pics of your AK that was issued blued (not a Chinese) if I'm incorrect.

I have AK's from virtually all the contries that were parked and/or parked and painted when issued.

Im having trouble getting good detailedside by side pics of the blued parts on the 1980 Polish everything just looks dark. The 1991 Polish looks just like the above pic, a more rough looking finish and the trunion is half painted while the 1980 is all blued . One quick way i can tell on the 1980 is i can shine a flashlite on the blued parts and you can see the patina or brown areas show up, paint wont do that.

Not the best comparison, 1980 carrier on top has bluing inside the bolt tail tunnel , 1991 does not. Like i said above i can shine a flashlite on the carrier and the age patina /brown shows up. This also happens to the unfolder stock, bolt, cover etc.

I have a Kbkg wz. 1960 AK47. And love it. It was built from a near perfect matching kit. I had The Firingline in OK build it. The kit was so good I would not even let him reblue any of it except the barrel since it was in the white.

Yugos are hot blued from the factory, always have been.

All of the East German AK parts that I have seen were blued. Well...I guess it's more of a "Belgian" blue. They have a
very dark grey bluing. I still dream about someday owning an MPi-KM. The East German parts are far and away the best
quality I have ever seen in terms of machining and fit/finish.
