It's not exactly the most attractive thing so it doesn't suprise me.

My friend...some things are better left undone.

Here is my 74 with a normal break just as God and Mr. Kalashnikov intended.

thank you
i used "Helmsman Spar Urethane" made by Minwax.
http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/helmsman.cfm
It is exterior grade, protects against sun, rain, temp. I sanded the furniture down in steps until i got it smooth with 400, then buffed it with steel wool. I used a brush to apply the clear, but had to sand it all off several times because I'm not much of a wood worker. I found out the hard way that you need a good brush.
Ironwood has an excellent how to section on their website.
Good Luck

Its a Tiger. Basically a sporterized Dragunov SVD with a shorter barrel. Made in Russia.

Pretty much like dskeet said. The Tiger differs from the military SVD by having a slightly shorter barrel, no bayo lug, no flash hider, and it does not have the adjustable gas system. However, all of those differences are being worked on by dragunovparts.com with exception of the barrel length

Very nice! A soviet slab side mag would be a nice addition or at least some steel mags.

Here is a little pictorial of the changes my SAR-1 has gone through over the last coupe of years. The first picture shows the gun straight out of the box:

First thing I did was make the finish look better, and eventually threading the barrel and putting on a -74 style brake:

With the expiration of the AWB, the pinned brake was removed and a slant brake added. The final touch was the recent addition of a Romy folder, and some tabs I welded onto the neutered gas block:

I'm very happy with the look of the rifle as it is now. There's probably no further changes I'm going to make.

My recent acquisition, a Bulgarian AK74 built by Troy over at InRange. I bought the rifle from Mbsk01, and it's in great shape. RSA trigger, nice finish. Only drawback: It's AWB-neutered. I might replace the FSB and brake eventually, but I'm very happy with it right now:

I've got a Kobra coming in the upcoming group buy, so it's going to wear different optics soon.
