I was looking around YouTube this morning and found this old nugget. The US Army Training film on the AK-47. I found it pretty interesting, just passing along. You will learn that the Army was telling troops that the 7.62 x 39 cartridge was not a very good combat load, etc. Interesting stuff.

I think that was still when the M-14 and M-1 were still being issued.  Can't give the soldiers the idea that the enemy was ahead in weapons development.

Precisely. The US continued to believe its own mythology that a heavier, full-powered rifle round was the way to go, based on the assumption that combat involved slugging it out with small arms at distances of up to 600 yards.
