Some have "Norinco" stamped very lightly on the barrel. You can hardly see it with the usual course final lathe cut.

Kinda sounds like this is a home built Chinese kit rifle made on an blank receiver flat, no? And seller is playing that, "it has no markings so how would LEO's prove it's not preban?" Sounds shady.
If it is a (post ban)home built, I believe the requirement prior to sale is that the maker has to engrave their name. |

Sounds like a norinco 56. I have one with no marking on the receiver. It has norinco 762 very light on the barrel. Early pre ban.
