I'm considering a M85 PAP to add to the collection after seeing them in the "non-AR 556" thread in GD.

What's a great comfy stock when I SBR it?
I'm in the process of putting a manticore triangle with stormwerkz hinge on a wasr 63 so I've got that covered. Under folder looks fun but at the same time wildly uncomfortable to shoot.

Talk to me about magazines too
I assume ALG's new AK trigger will work?
Can I trust the concentricity of the threads for a suppressor?

Thoughts?
Other things I should know?

You'll have to check the threads, but likely not concentric enough for a silencer.

I went with the Manticore Renegade handguard and optic mount.

And did a little work (really wasn't hard) and installed a M70/M72 rear trunnion, allowing my to run a Magpul Zhukov-S Yugo stock.

I"m planning to form 1 my M92, I'm going to just drill and tap the rear trunnion and run a Stormworkz folding hinge and a usmachinegun triangle stock.

So what's different about the m92 besides caliber?

I have the CNC Warrior tubular folder made specifically for M92/M85 PAPs.  A very good stock, excellent quality.  Link:  http://www.cncwarrior.com/PAP-M85-M92-Folding-Stock-p/26436.htm

Pmags, USGI (NHMTG), D&H, and Lancers all run fine in my M85NP.  Haven't had a chance to try my ETS mags yet, but I'm betting they'll run fine as well.  My M85NP is not finicky about the mags I use in it.

I think the M85 has a thicker receiver, but other then that there's not much difference.

The M85 has a thicker receiver, bulged trunnion, and chrome-lined bore.

Never really looked at it but it does appear to be the best deal out there, and is specifically made for the PAP pistols.
Looking at Wild bill shim plate + ACE/SW block + stock is nearly $200 or more.

Do you have any thoughts about adding a sling loop to the CNCW stock? It looks like there is enough material to possibly even drill & tap for one of the YHM rotating 5/16" swivels. I have one and originally considered drilling & tapping the M92 rear trunnion on the left hand side to add it, but reconsidered when I realized that it may not play well with a folding stock.

There is a socket for a QD sling swivel on the other side of the stock, it just isn't visible in the pics.

it appears to be a complete item.

with the info that it has a QD socket, I'm sold. I believe that's what's going on my M92.

Yours folds to the left, correct?  How did you decide which side you wanted it to fold to?  I like the riser.

Yeah, it folds to the left.  My rule of thumb with folders on AKs (when I have a choice) is that if it has an optics rail on the receiver and I intend to use it, I want it to fold to the right so I can leave the optic on when folding the stock.  Any rifle that doesn't have an optics rail on the receiver gets a left folder.  I prefer left folders, but have to take optics into consideration because I like to use them on a lot of my AKs.

My .308 Saiga gets a right folder because of the optic.

Follow-up question:  When the rifle is slung, isn't it better to have the folder to the right since you can grab the lower handguard with your left hand and unfold the stock with your right hand?  It seems to flow well that way.  I have used right-folding stocks for that reason, but I have another Yugo M92 SBR and can be convinced to get a left-folding stock.

That's a valid reason for a right folder.  It's all about personal preference.  I prefer left folders because they do not obscure or partially obscure the charging handle, selector lever, and mag release (in the case of my M85NP).

With a left folder, I grasp the handguard with my left hand and fold/unfold with my right, same as you with a right folder.  I just hold the rifle far enough away from my body to allow the stock to swing.  Left folders just work better for me and the way I use my AKs.  Again, personal preference.

Got it.  That's an excellent point and now that I think about it, my AKS-74U SBR folds to the left.  I am going to make the Yugo M92 i mentioned above a left-sided folder.  May as well have both types.

The stormwerkz hinges are great.

IMO the USMG and CNCW fixed stocks are cool and all - but there's a reason Russian's are upgrading their AKs to use adjustable stocks and tubes. IMO go with the AR adapter and use a magpul stock unless you're going for a specific look.
