I purchased a Zastava PAP about a year ago, I got a killer deal on it from Cabelas for $350! The rifle shoots great, but it was lacking in the looks department. I ordered an AK stock set only to find out nothing fit, that’s when I researched and learned about all the differences the Yugo’s have. Determined to ditch the ugly thumbhole stock I came up with the idea to adapt an AR buffer tube to the back of my AK. The adapter started life as a 2” diameter solid steel pin. I drilled the through hole for the 8mm mounting bolt, then bored in 1.5” so I could cut the threads for the buffer tube. Then I necked down the one end so it would fit into the back of the receiver. I shaved down the outside of the adapter then gave it a chamfer to make it look nicer. The tapco stock with tube was $70 and I did have to buy the 1 3/16 – 16 tap for $65 and the steel was free, and it took about 1.5 hours on the lathe. For $135 I know have a proper looking rifle. I know not everybody likes the look of a tactical AK, but I love it. The adapter is still pretty damn heavy, but because of where on the rifle it’s located it doesn’t affect the balance. I do plan on ordering a piece of aluminum and remaking it, but for now it works. Thanks for reading.

Looks good!  Wonder though if there would be any torquing issues with it not filling the rounded square stock hole?

Could have bought the Ace adapter and pig nose for $65 and accomplished the same thing a lot easier.

That may not have looked quite right on his slant cut receiver.

ATI is making one for CAI that they are using on their new PAP tactical rifles.  I contacted CAI and ATI but neither was willing to sell them individually, or as a repair part at this time.  It would probably be plastic and probably pretty cheap cost wise.

Thanks. I did find the ACE adapter in my research, but like EvilBetty said I'm not sure it would have looked right on my receiver and I would have had to modify it anyway. So I just figured I'd start from scratch.

I don't think it looks any worse or better than yours, but then looks are subjective.  I've always been a form follows function type of guy.

Cost is what is scarring me off of the ACE products.

The OP's workmanship looks good, but when he redoes it in aluminum he should make it shorter.  One of the downfalls of most AK adapters for M4 stocks is that the LOP adjust from long to really long.

I like what you did.  I went a different route.  Actually welded up metal to make a full rear trunnion.  I had to paint and bake it after it was done but I think it was worth it.

Where does one find THAT stock for a Yugo?  I see CAI sells them on the rifles but when I called them they referred me to Apex for a replacement part. (and acknowledged it would probably be wood).

I'd like to get a hold of one, if for no other reason to use as a template fora  better wood stock.

How does it cheeck / shoot by the way?

I'll probably end up making the aluminum one 1/2 to 3/4 inch shorter.

I like what you did there simmons5 I originally wanted to go in the  same direction you did, but then i decided it would be better to leave the firearm unmodified.

I haven't gotten to the range yet, but I the rifle does feel way better to me. I think a lot has to do with ditching the thumb hole style stock. I'll hopefully be able to shoot sometime next week, these short winter days don't leave much time after work to shoot.

I actually got the stock  before the panic.  I got it online but honesly dont remember where.  It shoots great and I actually added a quad rail to mount my optic.  I would love to get a new non railed dust cover but there like finding a Unicorn right now.

Damn it.  A composite Yugo stock, with no cheek slap.
