Just got my M76 back from Firing Line last week and they seem to have it running very well. The mags set too low at the rear and the bolt would jump over the case rim nearly every shot. It seems that Century used a standard selector stop plate, this not only caused the mags to set too low but also allowed the safety selector to go past the safety notch about 1/8th of an inch. They removed the plate, reattached the trigger guard and set a blind pin in the receiver like the original rifles have. Now the safety stops in it's notch and the rifle feeds much better.

The gas port was drilled under size which let the bolt short stroke. Combine that with the bolt jumping the case rim and the mag follower's tendency to nose dive and I had a gas operated single shot rifle. The port was reamed to it's proper size and now the gun feeds slicker than snot on a doorknob.

Lastly, the scope rail was warped inward in the center so a rubber mallet had to be used to tap off the scope the entire length of the rail. I got a new rail and they installed it for me. I put 10 rounds through it last week and it finally runs like it should.

This rifle was about two years old so sending it back to Century wasn't really an option. I know the guy I got it from and he rarely shoots his guns. He bought this and stuck it back in the safe until he found something he wanted worse. I'm okay with all that because I've wanted one of these for a while and now I finally have it running reliably. I need to get the scope bore sighted and shoot for group this weekend.

Damn man, you had some issues going on there. Good to see you got it worked out, but too bad it had to be on your dime.
A 9mm might expand to .45, but a .45 will never shrink to 9mm.

Yeah well, Century crap shoot and all that. Oddly enough this is only the second Century rifle I've had a problem with during my 10 years of buying them. Main thing is though I finally got my dream rifle and now it's running great, can't wait to shoot it again this weekend.

My M76 hasn't been getting much love. I haven't shot it in a year and I want to refinish the wood (again). I also might try another trigger other than the RSA I currently have in it. I might tinker with it this weekend in anticipation of shooting it more often in the future.

Nice rifles, I just lost interest in mine for a while. Too busy shooting other stuff.

DMR's are fun but I wouldn't want to shoot them all the time. Some days a guy just needs to do some blasting so I can understand giving one some downtime. Now that I have this one running I need to work up a hand load for it and then it will probably get some time off.

It's clearing off here so I hope to shoot it later today along with a couple others I haven't played with in a while.

So, how did it run?

I polished the hell out of an Arsenal 2 stage trigger last night and installed it today. Feels great and it's super-predictable. I'm really itching to shoot this rifle again, it's laid dormant for too long.

Liquid, let us know how it goes with the arsenal trigger . I have adjusted it twice and I have never been happy with the RSA.

I already like the Arsenal a lot better. Like you, I could never get the RSA in my M76 to the point where I was truly satisfied with it. When I installed a polished Arsenal 2 stage in my .308 Vepr, I knew what I wanted to do with the M76.

The Arsenal trigger needs work right out of the box. It's rough and the pseudo-two stage break is very heavy. With some polishing work it is exactly what I want in a trigger, buttery smooth and perfectly predictable with a light break. At least with the M76 it is a drop-in, in the .308 Vepr I had to heavily modify the hammer just so it would function in that rifle.
