I think your best bet is a weld on, something like the Tromix Galil style weld on or maybe an extended Albanian SKS charging handle style?
You could also drill a hole and tap threads and then use a bolt to fab a custom charging handle. I would recommend picking up a spare bolt carrier to do the modding to. |

Been there done that got the t shirt. Strip it to factory leave it be and buy an AR.
