THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT It is a Norinco with a aftermarket side folding stock (couldnt find a name on the stock). It has a permanently attached 30round mag. Almost looks like a hand clamp was used to pinch the mag well sides together. There is a flash hider that has been put on the end (reminds me oh how a Mosin's bayonet attaches) The lug on the bayonet where it meets the rifle (not where it attaches just meets the rifle to limit upward movement) has been hacked off to allow for flash hider. It almost looked like the last 3-4inches of the bore had no groves but it could be the crappy light i was using. Is there such thing as changing barrels for an sks? And due to the large mag the bayonet wont fully come down. Is it worth the $200 price tag? Thanks! |

Look down the barrel and see if the chrome lining is still good. Most Norincos are good rifles, sad that one has been hacked but $175-$200 out the door seems worth it.

Man, it sucks that people cut up and bubba a perfectly good rifle like that...
Like Schroedum said, $175-$200 isn't bad these days. Ask them if they'll go lower than $200 for it given the state it's in. If you want to get it out of that crappy stock, pull off that mag (which probably doesn't feed very well anyway), remove the useless muzzle doohicky, and get it looking and running like a proper SKS you'll probably spend about another $100 plus or minus a bit. Even $300 isn't too bad for an SKS nowadays. Even if the last 3-4 or so inches of rifling are somehow shot you could cut and recrown the barrel & put on a new front sight from Prince50 over at sksboards.com. Make sure if you do that you DON'T make the barrel any shorter than 16" or suddenly you'll have a SBR and a world of legal woes. Best practice is usually to make it 16.5" just to be sure. Make sure you keep 922(r) issues in mind while you're doing all this. This all might sound like a lot to deal with, but it's not too hard once you get into it and it's usually worthwhile. You'll be rescuing a weapon from Bubba and will end up with a tight, classy looking rifle that is all yours. |

Not a bad price, but be careful of the "bubba improvements".
There are plenty of Chinese SKSs available, you don't have to jump. |
