THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT A few of the guy's I train with and work with have a lot of experience with AK's (especially Krinks) and really like them. I've pretty much decided I'm going to get a Krink kit and would like to get input from guy's experienced with the platform since I'm pretty much a newcomer when it comes to AK's. What experience I do have with the AK platform is limited to those in 7.62x39 and I have no experience with those in 5.56 NATO or 5.45x39. A big question for me is what cartridge is the one to go with? Being able to use standard AK mags with 7.62x39 is an attraction since I don't want to have any difficulties finding hard to find or uber expensive mags. I also like the terminal ballistics on the 7.62x39 cartridge at the engagement ranges this gun was designed for. But the other options are the 5.45x39 and the 5.56 NATO. In doing my research I'm seeing that several sources are selling unissued Krink parts kits (less receiver). There are kits available for Yugo M85's and M92's, as well as Tula AKS-74U's. This will be a "working gun" and the only thing I'm interested in is function and absolute reliability. I'm not at all interested in any of the historical significance of one model over another, just the practical issues of availabilty and quality of ammo, magazines, spare parts, and highly reliable function. I know the guns in 7.62 have a reputation for being highly reliable. Are there any isses with the other cartridges in terms of function and reliablity? Anything else that one should be aware of? |

Pick up a Draco pistol and SBR it. They are cheap, well built (at least mine is) and you will be able to use it as a functional/heavy use rifle and beat the crap out of it instead of something else that costs $1500+. They are 7.62 and use standard AK mags.
If I had to pick between a Russian type Krink and the Yugo, I would go with Russian, as I think the triangle stock is more solid than an underfolder. |

You sound like candidate for a Yugo M92

If you can find an SLR-107UR for a decent price, I would grab that.

I second the notion for a draco. Buy the gun and have it sent to someone who can put a stock on it for you. Less money on the gun means more ammo to shoot.

A Draco is a good choice, or maybe a kit built by a good smith. I have the Arsenal SLR-106UR, pretty nice except for the rattling handguards and paint that comes off if exposed to anything stronger than CLP. |

Actually, as it turns out what you posted was dead on the mark.
Based on all my research and in large part the feedback from the guy's on this forum I've pretty much decided to can the Krink plan and do a Draco SBR build. Thanks |
