Very nice and authentic CSP, did you do the work from a thumbhole?

I didn't make any changes to it and neither did the previous owner(s). I really lucked up and found a Maadi Steyr (see www.avtomats-in-action.com/pro16.html) and got it for the deal of the century. It is a true pre-ban and came into the US exactly as you see it. It's as close to a AKM as you can get - it's just not select fire. The Russians setup the factory for Egypt and about 2000 of these rifles made it into the States before the ATF put an end to that. It was one of the first AK's to ever make it into the US. Thanks for the compliment. CSP |

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/redfisher19/AK%20Related/2007_0730Image0001.jpg I just picked up a thumbhole Maadi and want to convert the stock to this configuration. I think it looks great. Please see new thread and help me figure out what to do about the receiver's stock end (its not open?) |

Very nice! Sounds like you're going to do a Russian clone. Just don't get your "Russian Red" wood furniture in the deep or bright red like the vendors sell on their "Russian Red" rifles. Study up on the colors of the Russian laminated wood and you'll see they're a very different red than that "Russian Red."

That photo was taken before I put any of the compliance parts in. All done now. |

LR243, it looks like you have a gem in disguise. You have one of the earlier ARM rifles - you've got a threaded muzzle under that tacked-on muzzle cap. A bit of use with a dremel and off that can go. Then add your a muzzle nut, muzzle brake, or flash hider. And, there's Egyptian military wood furniture out there - a change-out of the thumbhole buttstock for an Egyptian buttstock and pistol grip would just about get you there. All the items can be found at APEX Gun Parts.

All the items can be found at APEX Gun Parts. Thanks for the heads up. I have never heard of Apex Gun Parts. I will check them out. You are correct. There is just the smallest of tac welds on the muzzle. Would not take much to take it off. I bought this at least 10-15 years ago if memory serves me right. I know its not one of the China put together ones. |
