My friend has a Maadi for sale for $400. He says the front sight isn't hooded. Anything else I should ask him and is it a good price or should I pass? Thanks for the advice and input!

What's the furniture (i.e. thumbhole stock or regular buttstock), threaded barrel, import marks, general condition??

A hooded front sight sounds like the rifle may be a MISR-90 which is basically a post-ban rifle that was a mixture of Chinese and Egyptian parts.

Personally, $400 wouldn't be a value to me, but it really depends on what the buyer wants:

A. just a AK (or AK-ish) rifle to enjoy shooting the heck out of and aesthetics don't matter = possibly a sastifactory deal
B. a rifle that's representative of an AK-producing country or a rifle that will be turned into an aesthetically correct country's rifle = not a good deal (too much work/money involved in the transformation)

Regular butt stock threaded barrel. The front sight is not hooded. No problems. Good condition. I'd be using it to just shoot at the range with.

Based upon your description, I'd say buy it & have a good time at the range.
