I've been looking for something like that for the PG and HG on a pistol build. |

I see people asking if it's a "Plain receiver or "x" and "y' stamping", what does this mean? Are there any pictures of the two?

Would it be legal to mount a rail like this http://www.mountsplus.com/miva/merchant.mvc?page=MSP/PROD/AK-47_Handguards/SMC-KRAIL-M2 Instead of a tapco made hand guard.

It's US made so I would guess so.

Just got my Saiga 223 converted. Dont have a pic yet so that will come soon. What cracks me up is I was going to have a local gunsmith do the work as I was nervous and apprehensive about cutting and drilling on a new rifle. He said he couldnt do it as he didnt have a drill press or this and that. So I decided to give it a go. It took about 6-7 hours total. i had to do some grinding and use some yankee knowhow to get everything jiving but it works well and it was done with mostly standard tools and a nail for a punch. I will say a dremel is a must as are decent drill bits. The spot weld was the worst part and ate a few drill bits. All and all im stoked about doing it myself and hope to do the same with a 308 when finances/wife permit me to do so. Thanks to everyone who made a guide and left advice as it was all very helpfull.

Am I doing this wrong? I looked at everyone else's and nobody else put the BHO back in, then some other people modified their selector switch for the BHO. I also noticed that most people have holes in their receiver where the original axles used to be. I tapped my original trigger axle pins with a 3mmx0.5 tap and put little screws in.
I put the BHO back in and it works, was I not supposed to put it in? I haven't shot it yet because I'm still waiting on furniture and rivets to arrive in the mail (AR pistol grip was temporary), but I can remove the BHO & trigger axles if they're not supposed to be there. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/DSC02117.jpg Here it is with the bolt held open: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/DSC02118.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/DSC02121.jpg Edit: nevermind, I see some people have retained it. |

I retained the BHO with both my S12 and 7.62 conversions. As you know, it's a bit finicky to install, and takes some patience. I think most people just give up on it, deem it "unnecessary", and leave it off. For me, I thought it was worth a little bit of extra work to retain. |

Haha yeah I am part of the "unnecessary BHO" club. I left mine off after conversion, and instead use Krebs Custom Safety lever (also fixes the 308 safety issue) with built in BHO notch... i never liked the original BHO on the gun anyway. I prefer being able to see it locked in and held open from the outside rather than play around with the little tab and hoping it catches. The Surefire mags also have a built in BHO feature that kicks in after the last round is fired and holds until magazine is removed. |

No offense dude, but I think Subnet, Hardcase, and the gyrating stormtrooper pretty much got you on this one.

What front sight post fits Saigas other than the AK74? I like the slant brake look better. (I did a 74 FSP on the last Saiga and didn't care for the flash hider at all). I tried installing a Russian Type III front sight post as well as a Romanian today and neither of them fit. They just slid down the barrel because the barrel was too thin. I ended up cutting the front of the sight post and moving the entire unit forward about an inch, then modifying the post to take the muzzle brake retainer pin and spring. I don't want to leave it this way forever, I want a proper front sight post.
This is what I ended up with: http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/4eb8b977.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/43ec514f.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/f736343d.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e237/slomofo562/Guns/9f420a75.jpg A front sight post, pistol grip, buttstock, and paint job seem to be the only things holding me back from completion. |

What's the poop with those magwells on the S12's? Are they worth having, or just something cool to look at?
