I picked this up at a local gun show back in 1997 when i first got into AK's. I was told it was Russian but looking for more info. I have not found any other furniture with the groove in the lower handguard. As you can see there is no palm swell either. Any idea what i have? It has been in storage since i bought it and just ran across it tonight.

I've seen Chinese stuff with that groove before. It was for the folding bayonet. Not sure if the Ruskies did it as well, but I assume they must have at some point.

ETA: The metal ferrules are also a dead ringer for the Chinese stuff that I handled. Again, not sure if the Russians did the same, but I assume that they did at some point.

Hell, even the colors look Chinese.

Thanks. I don't have a use for it right now but wanted to get it identified so if i do decide to toss it on the market i didn't accidentally misrepresent it.
