I would separate them completely if you're going to go that route, I tried the pistol grip thing, and just didn't like the feel, too short for my hands, but looks good like the one Flyleaf posted. Stock doesn't look bad either when separated, and is pretty solid, and the Vepr buttpad makes for cushy shooting.

I copied Dragynn's idea. Although I like the pistol grip.

Here it is with an AR entry stock and the original wood handguard Plasti-Dipped.

I rubbed it hard tonight with gold. sooo oh oh oooo hard.   :)    (filling the grain with some metallic flake...gonna take it down and tiger stripe it with stain)

edit: oh wow , I didn't see your similar stock cut posts you guys made!  those are...beautiful...  yes....yes!    I motivated tonight.... bubba gonna bubba dog.

I did a test run with the walnut stain following the natural striping in the grain.... before rubbing down with enamel gold.  hopefully I figure out a top final coat that will bond good with stain and enamel...  lol

yessir! yours is suh-weeeet!

just a beaut.

I've been keeping a PSL butt plate and spring/sling assembly handy wondering if the VEPR walnut wood is strong enough to handle what the PSL laminate stock looks like... your thoughts on that?   I think it could be prone to chipping under abuse.

It aint our gun, if you like it that's what matters. If it's too costly to buy other parts and your just trying to make what you have work then rock on!

I'm glad I tried this little project... almost done in pic below....gonna need to find a spray coat and also take the grip back down a few layers to remove the uglier striping.

cheers!

Looking forward to seeing it on the rifle, I like what I see so far.  The grain and striping look great.

It actually turned out much better than most I've seen. I was expecting a quick rasp and paint/stain leaving it looking only slightly better than the original picture.

Thanks!

I think it could stand up just fine, it's a little soft which makes it easier to work, but thick and solid enough it should take some punishment pretty well. And some of the stocks have some really nice grain patterns in them.

You read my mind.  I was thinking it would look cool with the matching wood handguard.
