I found an old long barreled, slab sided receiver Saiga that I forgot I had. I'm thinking of doing a full conversion on it. I also found an old complete Maadi barrel. I'm on the fence of swapping barrel or just modifying the existing barrel. Both journals are the same size so it should be a pretty easy swap. What do y'all think?

When you say "modify the barrel" what does that mean?

Remove/replace FSB, and gas block mill key way for the forearm retainer, thread muzzle.

I had a smith cut mine down to 16.5" and recrown. The crowning made a big difference. That's the route I would take, unless you want to make a Tabuk type rifle....
