Until the Russians expire the VRA that they chose to implement, we can't get them here. SVD's can easily be imported as a sporter as long as they have no flash hider...in this case it's not our laws keeping them out, it's the Russians.

If they start importing sporterized Dragunovs, I’ll cry tears of indescribable joy.
Why did they stop importing the Tigrs? |

It was specifically named in an import ban "or so I've been told". Anybody who is actually knowledgable tell me what the real issue is? |

No it wasn't a US ban specifically.
The Russians agreed to implement the VRA on what they would willingly export to the US. They made a political decision to stop exporting these rifles to the US. Until the Russians expire it themselves we won't get Dragunov's or Tiger's. Z |

OK, so how do we go about getting them to do that?

What's the time frame or who do we have to pay off in the Kremlin to start getting this merchandise into my hands? |

Very different, in fact, aside from some cosmetic similarities and the 7.62x54r chambering. |

IIRC the Dragunov design is thought to have higher potential for accuracy.

Well. here's a solution:
Why not build Dragunovs in the US? Over the last 10 years, domestic CNC shops have sprouted everywhere, that make some very good AR15s using CNC tooling at pretty affordable prices. This can totally be repeated for the Druganovs. The design is fairly simple and there's no licensing royalties. |

You know, I keep hearing this line over and over from people when discussing US built AKs I’m not trying to call you out, but please explain to me why we can’t build an AK to spec, including the hammer forged barrel affordably ($1000 range) I’m sorry, but if we can build the much more complex AR-15 platform for that price range, then we can do it with the AK I |

However, they do make great guns. |

I dont know either, there's just not enough people wanting dragunovs to justify the cost of production
and if I recall correctly someone would have to get a license from izhmash to produce them over here or be subject to a lawsuit... but i would love to see a u.s. made dragunov regardless |

How well do petitions go over in Russia? What if a bunch of crazy American gun owners signed a petition stating intention of buying a TIGR rifle if they ship them... or something like that, I mean why do the Europeans get them but we don't? We get Saiga, Saiga's Legion, VEPR, but no TIGR series... what the hell?
