Supposedly one of those Ugandan security contractor WASRs.  I don't know if I believe the story, but the patina looked good.  I did the mag myself, the gun I just cleaned, it was filthy.

Regarding you magazine (very nice BTW), did you remove black or add silver?  How did you do it?

I experimented with a bunch of different things.  Of course I threw it down the driveway, I also used a screw driver to scratch it, and I hit the screw driver with a hammer to put some dings in it, then I had to bend it back out so the follower would move freely.  I used some sand paper, some different steel wool.  I ran it through the dishwasher with high heat and lots of dish soap.  I tried soaking it in salt water and while that did create a lot of rust, once I wiped the mag off, it didn't really do much to change the look.

I've seen a lot of faux patina before, and my biggest complaint would be that they tend to look very uniform.  So I just threw whatever I could think of at it.  Some worked better than others, but at the end of the day, I figure there's really no right or wrong.  Even the steps that weren't very effective did contribute to the over all look.

My '72 10/63; Sorry for the crappy pic, came with 5 mags and I haven't touched a thing with it yet. Picked up the PA-63 with a spare mag and 100rds the same day. New spings on the way for it.

Just bought a wire folder for the 10/63 above from a forum member, waiting for its arrival. I noticed on the thread a few of the rifles with folders have a recoil pad. Where did you get that?

I bought the actual wood through ironwood designs and I utilized several coats of watco danish oil and also final coat of tung oil.

Thanks! I usually use high-temp engine paint, but went with appliance epoxy this time at the suggestion of another member here, turned out pretty nice, a little on the glossy side for me, but it's the wife's rifle and she's really happy with it, just got done re-finishing some laminate furniture and installed it this morning, she likes the wood better than the black furniture, so it may stay this way, but i'm working on a custom set of painted furniture now so we'll see how it goes.

I just did a refinish of my WASR10 furniture. I made the plain, ugly and rough furniture slightly less rough.

Before.

After three stains with minwax gunstock colored stain and four coats of semi-gloss polyurethane.

Wasr-10  Original wood that came with it, stripped off what little finish it came with, sanded in steps to 600. Then Kusmi #1 button shellac. Stock was almost white when stripped, hand guards were a little darker-suspect different wood. Overall happy with outcome. Handguards are just a shade off from the stock, but starting darker was to be expected. Much better then the finish that was on it when it was new

I'm really trying to get the WASR-10 to look like an authentic AKM.  I bought the correct lower bulged handguard, but I think I need to sand them all down, and apply some red stain, and then laquer.  Also, I need to cut off the welded thread protector and put a slant comp on it.  I'd rather have a flash hider though, did the AKM ever use the RPK style flash hider?

Here is my 2014 production WASR10 from JG Sales.

Bought some stained AKM wood furniture from Akfiles, and used Dupli-color semi-gloss high temp engine paint to refinish it.
