Thanks

Very nice, did all the mags come with it?

It looks ridiculous. However, it makes the weapon easier to control and I don't particularly care how military style weapons look so I used the VFG on the rifles built from Romanian kits.

I've used the dong on a couple of Romy rifles and have no issues with it.

I'm not a fan of the "dong" so I replaced it with a palm swell grip.  It came with my parts kit so I will keep it and may put it on from time to time.

Big fan, when the handguards get hot, you will be happy you have that dong on there.

I've used Dongs on a couple of my Romanian models and found that 20rd Hungarian mags are much more convenient/easier to use with regard to mag changes

I built a Romy G kit and kept the factory furniture. The think the dong works well.

Why the dong in the first place?

National (Romanian) pride I suspect is to be credited. Romy AIM avtomats were used as a form of international currency back in the 1980s when barter made better sense than paper commitments by 3rd world dictators doing business with Bucharest. So the dong back then became a potent symbol.

The Romy dong however experienced an unsuspected downside when doled out in Islamic countries like Saddam's Iraq. Culture clashed. AIMs were universally condemned as "women's rifles." How do we know this? Frankly from two sources this has become clear. USGIs operating in Iraq 2003-04 were told by a cohort of new, Iraqi "friends" that AIMs were especially suitable for issue to girls. And then there is the testimony of our own eyeballs - extensive video exists of Amazon battalions parading through downtown Baghdad and Teheran for special events (during happier days) with each and every lady warrior hauling an AIM. That is no coincidence.

What is the take-away?

I strongly suspect that Americans are, by-and-large, more confident in their sexual identity than "foreign friends." For us it is a matter of ergonomics. For them? Well ... who the hell cares.

Does this jib with what you know or understand?

Me? I'm a traditionalist.

I dunno, I have one on my Polish Khyber. I like it, looks a lot better than screwing some rail to the bottom of the regular grip so I can have a vert on there.

It's mostly mutt furniture on there right now anyway; hogue PG, romy dong, and the polish upper HG. None of which share the same finish.

Eventually I'd like to get a Yugo-style PG & upper from Ironwood and have the dong and them finished the same way and just use that.

Consider the guns they were originally on... they are excellent for full auto UN-neutered AKs.

Here's my SAR1 dong on the bottom.  Got it at a gunshow a couple years ago.  Paid $10 for my dong.

Romanian Civil Guard rifles were semi auto only, and were issued with the dong.

its fugly, but in a cool sort of way, I kinda like it.

They look real good with fixed wood stocks even semi matching, more woody furniture, changes the profile...

I hated the dong until i put my "g" kit together, then my eyes were opened.

ended up swapping it out for a standard hand guard cause it got it the way of mag changes.

On a trip to London many years ago, I saw in a museum a Romanian AKM and it had the front dong grip. That image of the "different AKM" has stuck with me.  So for me, it just "looks right" with it  on there. I also have a Romanian M65 underfolder (kit gun) with the reverse dong. I feel the "dongs" look "right" on Romanian rifles.

I have no problem using the dongs on MY Romanian rifles, after all  I handle my "dong" several times a day.

"Any love for the Romanian Dong? "

Nope.

This is my Romanian G parts kit on a Armory USA 1.5mm receiver.

I have another of the old Romy G kits under the bed. When I get around to building with it I will castrate the handguard and reshape with a file and sandpaper.

I just bought a GP 1975 this week. The wood work is like fine furniture  so I'm keeping the dong, darn right. Rifle shots fine after I degreased the junker bolt & polished it all over then cold re blued it.

The dong works off the bench.  No heat on the hand, and the feel and control is great for off hand rapid fire.  It feels so good that I don't notice any ugly any more.  I think they call that love.

I have one for my Romy G build as well as one for mr underfolder(reverse dong). I use the polish palm swelled versions for day to day shooting but keep both for nostalgia purposes....stained to match

Any chance for a link? Or at least a decent keyword to use for a search? I can't seem to find it.

edit: Found one for $45 shipped.
