Greetings,

I have noticed that the gas tube is always about a quarter turn loose when I take the gun apart to clean it. The first half turn of the tube is really loose and easy and then it gets hard to turn. I always hand tighten it but notice that it is always a quarter turn loose when I take it apart. So I asume that it is turning slighlty and wiggling back and forth while I shoot it. I know that AK's have some pretty loose tolerances but I just wanted to make sure this was OK as it seems unsafe to me. Again, it gets hard to turn once you get about a half turn so it has never completely loosened or unscrewed.

Otherwise, I love my SAR-1. It is my favorite gun despite what anyone says about AK's.

Gas tube????? Don't you mean gas piston? If so, and it is loose, it shouldn't rotate. It should be either pinned or welded.

A pinned gas piston will move a little, but not rotate. It sounds like you have a Century rifle with a welded gas piston, and the weld has cracked.

Gas tube should wiggle a bit that is normal/NP. However, bostedAK is correct, the gas piston should not back out and needs to be addressed.
