Just finished getting everything together today. Future plans? Perhaps refinishing the stock furniture, and ordering the Rhineland set if the LOP doesn't suit me well.

Oops.  I hadn't thought about the image title being leaked like that.  Oh well.

Anyway... Yeah.  It's really damned cool.  The one in the photo is one of 10 prototype builds.  It's sitting here next to me, on my desk at work, right now, wearing plum furniture.  Looks better in plum, I think.

It appears we have very similar tastes in rifles!  How did you get your 1P21 to mount on the side rail without removing the eccentric on the clamp?  Did you machine your rail? I removed the eccentric on my 1P21's clamp, and it still seems to return to original zero very well after MANY removals.  In the spirit of a pic thread here's what I'm talking about:

I machined a grove in the scope rail itself, locks up nice a solid!  Took about 10 minutes or so to get it done.  I haven't had th rifle out in a while...this thread is giving me the itch to go shoot it again!

Chopped the barrel, Re-threaded and added a Primary weapons systems FSC 30 comp on it. All I need is my front sight from ACE to show up and It will Be in buisness!

Here is my PSL.  Just got it and need to head to the range on Saturday.  I have already ordered a Rhineland Arms Tiger Maple stock set as I feel I am going to need the extra length of pull in the stock to be completely comfortable (and accurate), but I want to shot it with the original stock first.  I will post updated photos when I get the new stock set finished and installed.

Rick_A, please tell us about your beeeeutiful PSL. Looks like the bbl was shortened, what type of flash hider, bayo lug added? What type of bayonet? Did you do the work or did a gunsmith, if so who?, etc, etc.

It's a '78 PSL-54C with the barrel shortened to 21."  A Krebs 7.62mm AK-74 brake was used.  A 'smith opened up a U.S. made AK-74 FSB copy for me. The owner did everything else.  The bayonet is a Bulgarian Type 3.  The lug is integral to the FSB.

What FSB are you using?

the gas block on the PSL and the romanian ak's have the same diameter, so I was able to us an ACE clamp-on front sight. I did not alter tha gas piston system in anyway.

It's 100% homebrew, though next time I would do the barrel shortening prior to a build. putting the barrel in the lathe would have been much easier than doing it by hand was. Im sort of anal retentative when it comes to precision, so after i did the Rough job I pullled out the micometer, and spent nearly an hour with the hand file making sure that it was even before I went ahead and did the threads. some cold blue, crush washer, RockSet, screw on the comp. and you have a finished product.

My PSL is still a pile of parts, but I'm working on it.
Guess I'll need to find a hot brunette to test it out for me when done.

It has all matching #s and looks to be unfired or fired very little.
The bolt face is scratch free and the sling mounts shows a little carrying wear.

Here is what I've got done so far.
After blasting

After cold blue

assembled with a US made scope
Does it look like it will work?
There someone swapped pictures on me, not funny guys!

I have been hoping to get mine in here and I finally finished the tung oil on the wood and the Duracoat at 2:00 am this morning so here it is...
The Rhineland arms wood is very nice and fits very well. I did have an issue with the upper handguard being a bit small but they stood behind it and sent me another. It was lacking a bit on the tiger striping so I wound up using the short one and painted the part I wasnt happy with black to match the gas tube. I bet no one even notices.

I decided to do something a bit different due to the fact I screwed up the factory flash hider by trying to break the gas block lose to straighten it. I got the gas block lose and straight but bent the flash hider. I decided since the Rhineland arms stock simulates the Dragunov stock and the TN Arms receiver that I built this kit on is labled "Dragunov" that I would simulate the same kinda style for the front sight. This is an NDS Tabuk flash hider and a MAK 90 hooded sight. The sight has an I.D. which is .020" larger than the factory PSL sight so I got some .010" steel shim stock and made a sleeve and pressed the MAK 90 sight on drilled the pins larger and made larger pins. Yes this kit did come complete with the bayonet lug 100% intact.

I posted this in the romanian pic thread, then saw this one, so:

Here is my Romanian PSL from Aim:

Got it several months ago, only brought it out to shoot once since then, and initially about bent it over my knee trying to sight it in (never learned romanian) but after bringing out another scope to "help", i got it fairly well dialed in. shooting old eggs about avery other shot at 100 yards after i got it set.

Rifle is '75, scope '79.  Really like the style of this gun. never really in to ak's, have several ar's, but couldn't resist the look of it, even having never handled one personally before the purchase.  along with the 8 or so mags I ordered, couldnt be happier!

My new PSL "Sporter"

This is the U.S. built receiver from Century. Amazingly, the rifle actually works.

It did come with scope. I did not have it mounted while I was sighing the irons in.

My new PSL 54C

It a cugir. I have meticulously cleaned it. It still had cosmo inside the hand guards, and I got one of the 4x6 TIP 2 scopes. Everything is tight tight tight, and got it locally for $650otd. It was from my local pawnshop and I did not even haggle. I just put it on layaway. Now I have bought a 1/2 case of bulgarian 7.62x54R..... 440rds of  127gr light ball for $107. I am ready.

I also put on a Bsquare, clamp on, Bipod mount behind the gas block. I hope it will not affect barrel harmonics there. I will be testing with it on and off.

I will be in with a range report thread, and I still need to download the instruction manual for the scope.

The scope is very nearly mechanical zero when cleated down. I matched the irons to the scope POA at 50 yards, and that is where I will start when I get to the range.

Pic of the wife. She says it is a sexy rifle.

Love it!

My PSL...I've seen 'em with the 8x Russian scope, and I've seen 'em with the grenade launcher butt pad, but I haven't seen 'em with both.

I kept the original rubber scope eye piece.  I wear glasses so it feels better than the form fitting eyepiece that comes with the Russian scope
