My Milled MAK-90. The tree trunk with the hole in it had to go and this was the only stock I could get at the time. Harris quick disconect bypod, Ultimak scope mount and cheap but good working red dot.

Here's my milled MAK-90 with Ace folder and grip. The forearm is Tapco, but I really wanted a Galil and this is as close to one as I'm ever going to get, so go easy on me. It also has G3/HK91 sights. The receiver block set-up for the folding stock is my own creation. The lighting makes everything look blue, but the finish is actually Duracoat HK Black.

Here we go! This is MY baby - a Norinco Type 56 AKS-47 that I bought in 1988!!! It's shown here with my Norinco magazines - (1) 100-round drum, (1) 75-round drum, and (4) 40-round banana clips. Not pictured are my (2) 5-round Norinco hunting mags. And YES!!! The 40-rounders are loaded with Chinese STEEL CORE!!! ENJOY!!! http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i54/hoxie8020/P1010085.jpg |

Thanx! I wish the pic had come out on the site though...bummer! It's def my fav gun in my collection. Cool thing is that I only paid $350 for it, and then $20 for the 75-rnd drum and $40 for the 100-rnd. Nowadays the 75-rnd [Norinco] will run you about $160!!! And good luck coming across a 100-rnd! Anyway, cool sniper rifle! I love the suppressor - would love to have a suppressed .22 pistol. Have a great weekend! Alan |

MAN!!! That is beautiful! Great job. I would love to find an MAK-90 and transform it into a "preban style" AK with some US parts!!! Yours looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm jealous. The Gun Guru |

Gun Guru:
Thanks for the kind words! It turned out looking better than I imagined. And FWIW, the G2 double hook FCG feels nearly as good as the original Chinese FCG (which was awesome)...I think once the G2 breaks in it will feels just as good. --Otter |
|
|
Otter, Where did you get the wood srt for that? It looks great! Is it US made or foreign? Please let me know. Thanks! |

I picked up the wood from another board member, who had picked it up from another board member, just as you see it above. That's about all I know of it. Whoever finished it did a pretty nice job.
I originally wanted it for a Romy kit and had a KVar black synth stock for the MAK, but once I saw the wood against the blued finish on the MAK I was hooked. I had to do a lot of fitting so I guess it's "Otter-made". Now I just need to get it to the range! --Otter |

I would say they did a FANTASTIC job!!! I have a Chinese Type 56S PREBAN (see pic above!) that still has the original wood set on it, at least, the set that came with it at time of purchase in 1988. As you can see it's the darker finish whih I was told was common on early Chinese AKs. That right there is my pride and joy! I also recently bought a Yugo M70 AB2 Underfolder from Atlantic Firearms for $599, which is a really good price considering the quality build that it is (Century Arms International on DCI receiver). Haven't fired it yet.....but soon! I'll break it in with the two pistols I bought at the local gun show this past Sunday (Star BM 9mm and CZ - 52 7.62X25!). CAN'T WAIT!!!!! Take care and have a great week! |

The side I took the pic of is the perfect side ...the other side has some slight imperfections on the buttstock...HG upr & lwr are perfect. Overall it's too nice to mess with. The furniture on yours looks good too...I like that color. VERY handsome rifle.
Same for me with the M70AB2 UF (got mine at a local show though). Too many AKs, too little time! (Got to build that Romy, and the M70 fixed stock kit I bought.) |
|
|
I too have been wanting to build an AK! I would love to build the Polish one though. Are they difficult to do? Have you ever built one before? I know one thing....I would buy the receiver ALREADY BENT and drilled!!! I saw what a pain and expense it is to do THAT part of the build! Any good links on where to start a project? Please let me know. Thanks and take care!! Alan |

Here is my milled MAK-90 that I refinished to look like a Type III Russian AK. Replaced the FSB to accept a Pig Sticker bayonet. Used a Polytech bayonet that I polished the blade to mirror finish. Polished the bolt to a shine. Real Russian wood except for buttstock which is Ironwood. Had Z_Recto refinsh to look like the Russian color. 8 Russian slabside magazines, 1952 Russian sling and a 5 pouch with carrying strap Russian mag holder dated 1953(not shown).

Nice pics guys!
Mine is more basic, but I just bought it last week. I put a Tapco folder on it for now until I find one I like better, pistol grip, and a G2 FCG (but I kept the original hammer in place). Excuse the combine pic, but it's the only one I have online right now: Izhevsk Russian SKS, Chinese Poly SKS, MAK-90 w/folder |

Dude! Sweet looking rifle!!! Great job on the mods. Alan |

Well, mine started much like this one:
I replaced the butthole stock with one of the earliest USA parts kits I remember seeing. This was back in 1999 or so. The wood stock set SUCKED. It didn't fit well, and was horribly formed. I also had purchased an AK parts kit (I have no idea what country, but I think Chicom), and replaced the gas block and front sight, simply because I wanted to have the cleaning rod. Since I built this before the AWB sunset, I ground down the bayonet mount, which I am now kicking myself for, but oh well. Time passed, and I converted it (again) to this: The stock kit came from K-Var, and required a lot of grinding and such to get it to fit, especially the stock. The waffle mags I also got at K-Var. Time passed again. I never liked the pistol grip in the second picture, as it was too small for my hand and really made handling the weapon a PITA. I also had the desire to build a semi-suped-up version of the AK, similar to a Galil. Sooooooo........ I've gotten to this: All I have left to do is to replace the receiver cover with a ribbed one (I like the look), thread the muzzle for an A2-style flash suppressor, then paint the entire weapon in a desert camouflage pattern. The new hardware came from Blackheart International, and is all extremely good stuff. The folding stock and the mount are from Ace (and required me to cut the tang off the receiver, which I did with a Dremel and a cutting wheel). The furniture is manufactured TDI Arms, Inc. and is very well-made. I did have to do some cutting inside the foregrip to permit the cleaning rod to fit. The pistol grip was a PITA to install, and I had to use a screw purchased at Home Depot, but now it's in and light-years better than the old one. I plan to add a flashlight to the right side of the foregrip, and need to find a decent sling. The optic is an old Tasco ProPoint I had sitting around. Good enough. I'm not going to but a real AimPoint on this thing. Since this picture was taken, I have mounted it properly (which it isn't above). It is mounted on an UltiMak mount, which I also got from Blackheart. I also found locally 10 metal magazines WITHOUT the rib on the back (hate that damned rib), so I'll soon be putting the waffles and the four ribbed ones I have on the EE. Comments and/or suggestions welcome! |

That is one badass MAK90 Zaphod!
Nice look to it. I agree with your decision to get ride of the plastic grip! Good luck with the A2 cage. |
