I purchased this milled MAK-90 when i was a senior in high school and i always wanted to make it look a little more traditional.
I ordered the Iron Wood Designs stock after reading positive reviews about them online. I was hesitant at first as i was worried that the stock would not have a solid and secure mounting system but i was wrong. This stock mounts up very solid with no gaps between the metal and wood. The order took a little longer then normal as i also had them finish the stock in the traditional Russian red finish but it was worth the wait. Matt at Iron Wood Designs has manufactured an impressive stock. If i would have known that this stock would look and function as well as it does i would have ordered it a long time ago.

Looks great. I bought from them a couple years back for my SGL. I finished it myself, fun mini project. Matt is really passionate about what he does from what I've seen.

I too bought a wooden butt stock from Ironwoods about 8 years ago for my milled MAK 90. I had it stained to match the factory Chinese wood up front. Got a Chinese pistol grip at a gun show. Matt does great work. GARY

This is relevant to me. I have that rifle's twin, including the black Draganov style stock and hand guard.
I am considering the IWD furniture along with a G2 disconnector for 922(r) compliance. |

looks much better and I also installed an IWD slant cut stock on my MAK90 but please take off that ulgy ak74 muzzle brake and install a flat muzzle nut, what a real chi-com ak47 looks like.....

Did the lower hand guard come with the rear ferrule? If not, where did you find one? What other hardware did you elect to use with the IWD kit?

No the lower handguard did not come with the rear ferrule. I was able to use all of the metal ferrule caps off of the old original wood thumbhole stock. I am glad that i kept them. I am not sure but i think that IWD offers these for sale though. |

I was going to buy this stock for my MAK a while ago, and put it off. I just went to their website, and the price has jumped! The last time I looked it was something like $165 plus shipping, now it's $256 for the cheapest one... Did I miss something? It's almost $100 more for the cheapest one now?
Edit to add: You'd think I would have learned by now to jump on something gun related when I first see it... |

With all the bits and pieces (stock set, ferrule for the pistol grip and sling swivel), it came to $223 with shipping. I think it came out nice.

Years ago I purchased just the butt stock as my MAK came with Chinese hand guards. I asked Matt to make the wood whatever would be the easiest to stain to resemble the Chinese hand guards already on the gun. I found a Chinese pistol grip for $10 at a gun show. Somebody here was able to perfectly stain the butt stock to look like the Chinese wood. GARY

I'll probably break down and buy a set at some point, but it's hard for me to pay more for a stock than I paid for the rifle.
And you guys aren't helping, those look great! Edit to add a question. Where are you guys getting your FSB with bayonet lug? It seems like I remember reading a long time ago that the Chinese MAKs with the milled receivers had barrels that were larger than standard. Am I remembering incorrectly, or would any milled AK FSB work? Like this one: http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/AK47-FRONT-SIGHT-BLOCK-COMPLETE-NEW-149p1579.htm Additional edit - just measured my barrel. On the receiver side of the fsb, the barrel measures just a hair over 15mm. On the muzzle side, the barrel measures just under 14mm. I assume this is where they removed the threads? |

The threads weren't removed from the barrel. They just didn't thread the barrel. As for the gas block and front sight base, I used Bulgarian parts.
