My boss has a Norinco 84S in 5.56 and it's missing the magazine.  Anyone have any idea where one could find just one 84s magazine?

Also, any other magazines out there that work with the 84s?

And the original Norinco 5.56 mags pop up on the equipment exchange here from time to time.  They are expensive, usually close to $100, although I have  seen them as low as $60 before.

I was at a match with a guy who had one of those mags. He couldn't get it to work in his 5.56 ak. He said he was so disgusted with it that he'd trade it for a good AR mag. I said 'like this Brownells mag'. When I found it didn't work in my WASR-3, I sold it on the EE for $75.

Besides being a good story, it confirms you will need to pay a lot for an original.

I use ProMag AK-A5 with some minor modifications.  Not the best quality but inexpensive.

I found 2 of them and both were snaked out from under me before I could buy.  If anyone finds any, please send me a PM.  Having a rough time getting one of these.

I was fortunate enough to buy mine with 6 mags. I have tried tapco, circle 10, and M85 mags but only the 84s mags have fit.

This,  just needed to file lower side of plastic piece that locks into mag release at backside of mag.  Just file a slight amount at a time and keep testing it as you don't want it too loose and if you file too much the piece becomes too prone to breakage.

Didn't know they were that rare.  Just picked up one at the pawn shop for $15.  Had a big sticker on it "NOT FOR SAIGAS".

The Bulgarian mags will not fit the Norinco 5.56, I have both rifles and both mags and  tried it.

It is hit or miss with the circle 10 mags. I had 3 Norinco 556 rifes. Two of them worked with all circle 10s,  one only worked with the clear circle 10s. I was lucky enough to get a bunch a the original mags when i bought one of the rifles. The norinco mags would not fit in the bulgarian rifles...

The Norinco 556 rifles don't have a bullet guide. The front of the factory mags handle that duty. Back in the day, mid 90's, I matched the profile of the front of the factory mags and relieved the feed lips on 545 (AK74) mags -- they fit the gun with no mods. Could only feed 20 rounds w/o jam. When adding a follower that allowed the rounds to tilt down as the mag was loaded they became 100% reliable. Today if I needed mags and had none to start with, I'd install a bullet guide, and mod 74 mags.

Will the M85 PAP .223 mags work in the Norinco 84S?  Anyone have any experience with this?

I don't have any firsthand experience with M85 mags in a Norinco but I remember reading somewhere that they are not compatible.
