THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT id like to make it as close to the chinese "yellow" as i can. does anyone have any idea what the best stain color is? preferably minwax, as thats whats most common around here. thanks. |

No stain. Chinese used shellac.
bullseye amber shellac from home depot is dead on match for Chinese. |

Update...
I did the amber shellac thing and it turned out great. The shitty lighting in the picture makes the front lower handguard look dark, but it didnt end up that way. The buttstock is a close approximation of what the color appears to be in person though. ![]() |

Nice reban.
If you want to get the Chinese "orange crate" look, common on most Norinco imports in the 80s, hit the bare wood with a coat of Iodine before the sealer, you'll have a crappy orangish finish just like the factory. Stripped Chinese stock set I got CHEAP at a show, shown with an original finish fat checkered Chinese PG. Other pic shows the stripped stock parts with 2 coats of iodine, I let it dry for a couple days, it's waiting for the fourth coat of Minwax to set now, I'll post pics when it's done.

Set refinished. Really close match between the original pistol grip and the stock parts, not perfect, but close.
