Looking to replace the front handguard on an AMD 65 with a "standard" AK type one (will be keeping the factory gas tube).  Want to know who sells one, in black, that either fits as is or takes the least amount of "fitting".

thanks for any help

There's a few options, but probably the most common/cheapest is the Tapco Galil HG.  It counts as a US part, and is only $20ish bucks.  It is open at the top so it fits over the gas tube without modification.  It takes some fitting/dremeling to get it to fit on the lower HG but it doesn't take long.

This thread talks about the same thing, and has a picture of an AMD with said HG.  I did the same to my own AMD and am very happy with the looks.

Here is a link to a thread on this.  Looks like most people just buy a normal gas tube with a retainer, cut it to size and flare it by heating it up with a torch and pounding a ratchet socket  into the end.

Here's a pic of the one I put on. Easy to install and very comfortable.

Any standard AK lower handguard that you like will fit on the AMD-65.  The only mod you will need to do is to relieve the handguard in the area where the small pins are in the handguard retainer.   I have been eyeing the Mission First Tactical Tekko handguard.  You can buy just the lower or the upper and lower.  The upper would work with the AMD-65 because it doesn't actually install on it but mates to the lower handguard.  The cover on the lower can be removed to expose a picatinny rail.

I cut a Romy tube down heated it and re flared it. So I could use some really nice wood on an AMD 65. Going for the Kyber look. Will try to load a pic

Not sure...maybe ? I got them off GB a few years back and refinished them and can't remember that far back but for some reason I'm thinking so.
