I have what looks exactly like an amd-65, but has no import marks, says made in hungary, and has no model ID on it.  Can you shed some light as to what it is?

Look on the bottom of the receiver in front of the mag well. If the receiver has 'made in hungary' on it, it should have the FEG logo and 'FEG 7.62x39' also. These are the 'SA2000M' receivers that were originally for single-stack magazines and converted for standard double-stack mags. Your serial number should be on the front trunion on the left side above the two rivets. So officially its an SA2000M, unless you have one with a different receiver, like a NODAK.
